This year will be a year of “firsts” for me, and this is the first time writing under the above banner.  Last week saw our Changeover Event.  It was held at the Lady Bay Resort and the resort did a great job of the venue and the dinner.  I had the steak, and it was delish.  Thanks to Anne Adams for liaising with the venue and the menu.

It seemed to me, looking around the room at various stages that a great nite was held by all.  There was plenty of discussions happening between the formalities, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.  Thank you to everyone who attended, and to Svet, Leon, Judy and Robbie for organizing the event and the table decorations.

I thought that Deputy Mayor Matt Walsh’s response to the annual report was excellent.  It was very interesting to hear an “outsiders” view of what the club has achieved over the past 12 months, particularly someone at the council level.  His words were inspiring and I think every member and Friend of the club should feel a sense of achievement.

It was also heartening to hear DG Tonie speak highly of the council when referring to the district conference being held next year.  It is easy to become jaded and think poorly of the local council, but Tonie was effusive in her praise of the support she has been receiving.  That bodes well for a great conference.

This month on the Rotary Calendar is the Maternal and Child Health month.  Rotary has a number of programs aimed at providing high quality health care available to vulnerable mothers and children.  You can read more about these programs at the link below.  Through our birthing kits program, we are creating our own lasting impact.

FRIENDSHIP & FRIENDS PART 5

Grief can take care of itself, but to get full value of joy, you must have someone to share it with. (Mark Twain)

Before borrowing money from a friend, decide which you need more.

(Addison H Hallock)

The entire sum of existence is the magic of being needed by just one person.

(Vi Putnam)

One measure of friendship consists not in the number of things friends can discuss, but in the number of things they need no longer mention.

(Clifton Fadiman)

Better do a kindness near home than go far away to burn incense.

(Chinese proverb)

Absence is to love what wind is to fire; it extinguishes the small, it rekindles the great.

(Comte de Bussy-Rabutin)

The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved, loved for ourselves, or rather in spite of ourselves.

(Victor Hugo)

We tire of the pleasures we take, but never of those we give.

(J. Petit-Senn)

Nothing is a greater impediment to being on good terms with others than being full at ease with yourself.

(Balzac)

Reminder! We are collecting 10c bottles for our projects. This is a really easy way of earning 100% profit for out club. You can utilise the app, or Brooke has business cards with the barcode on it. All you need to do is scan the barcode at the machine, then put the bottles in.
Alternatively, you can put your bottles in the bucket at each Rotary meeting, or drop them to Brooke and George's house on Kelp St.
