REPORT TO MEMBERS - AUGUST 2016
Just to keep everyone up to date, each month the Secretary will provide members with a summary of what was discussed at the last board meeting.

Resignation
Regrettably, Rob Cuzens has tendered his resignation.
Business
Mr Murray’s gravesite has now been completed. The next step is to have a plaque created.
Board has recommended that the changes by the Council of Legislation be adopted. Next steps will be to have lawyers McKean Park make the changes hopefully by AGM in in November.
Working with Children Checks – if you have a WWC would you please provide the details to the Secretary. These are not compulsory, however if you are involved in any activity dealing with young people, then a WWC is required, i.e. Exchange Students, Science Challenge, etc.
Foodshare has made an approach to our Club to pay the insurance on their vehicle which we have done in the past. This was approved and $1,600 will be sent to them to cover the cost. CEO, Dedy Freibe will be talking to the club about Foodshare on 20 September.
Finance
Once again, using Treasurer Michael Boyd’s quote, some good news and some bad news.
Good news:
Budgets are in and the club has funds in the projects account to support all service committee funding for this year. Other fundraising activities conducted by committees can be added to these funds.
All generic fundraising that we undertake each year, i.e. Folkie, Showgates, Dinner Auction, will go towards next year’s budget.
Not so good news:
Last year our admin costs were $3,783 more than income and $2,278 the year before. Consequently, we are not paying our way. Therefore, as announced recently by Michael Boyd, we have increased dues to $190.00 pa. Invoices have been printed and will be given out tonight.
Some time back the meal cost was increased by the Football Club from $16 to $18 and the club decided to absorb this cost and not pass it onto members. However, due to a possible shortfall this year Board has reluctantly agreed to raise the dinner cost by $2 to $22.00 commencing 1 September. To be equitable, people who do not eat will be asked to pay $4 which is the same margin the club receives from those who do have a meal.
Director Reports
Members should be aware of what is being reported by the Chair of their committees each month. These reports can also be found in Clubrunner where the minutes are kept.
Tasty Plate
At the Board meeting, Francis Broekman from Rotary Central provided an overview of the social enterprise, Tasty Plate with a view to gaining funding to purchase a food trailer to use for outside catering.
Just a bit of background:
Tasty Plate provides a structured workpace learning program that trains young people who have a disability in all aspects of hospitality. It does this through on-the-job training in Tasty Pate and through tailored learning in the Community Pathways program.
Some of their people transition to open employment, some experience continuous ongoing development within Realise Enterprises, but everyone gains the skills and confidence required to achieve their potential and beyond – ‘to be the best they can’.
Currently the business is delivered from two tailored industrial kitchens in Warrnambool and is now seeking to expand its business to include catering for large events. To undertake this expansion, Tasty Plate is keen to tailor design and construct a food trailer that can be used to transport, prepare and cook food to serve large events. The expansion into catering for large events will increase the capacity of the service to train up to 40 young people each week in the business.
The Rotary Club of Warrnambool Central has committed to coordinate the fund raising campaign and garner support from the other Rotary Clubs in Warrnambool to develop this project into a Rotary District project.
The total funding required is $70,000 and to date through private donations, Rotary Central, philanthropic organisatons and other Rotary Clubs they have raised approximately $50,000. Another $20,000 is needed.
Our club has agreed to commit $5,000 to the project, but this may have to be in the budget for the next financial year, unless extra fundraising is able to raise this amount.
The CEO Helen Ridgewell, the Catering Manager, Troy Saulitis and 2 young people will be coming to a meeting in Oct or November to tell you more about the organisation and what they hope to achieve with the trailer.

Fellowship Exchange request from RC Portland
An email has been received from Gail Barrett, Chair of the Rotary Friendship Exchange D9780, Rotary Club of Portland. She advised that there is a team from D7120 coming from USA arriving in Australia on 25 October to start their exchange in this District on 26 October.
There are 5 couples and they are seeking volunteers from Rotary clubs to pick them up from Tullamarine and host them for a couple of days before they move to the next stop.
