Tonight we have Exchange Students to discuss the highlights from participating in ‘Mini Safari’
Rotarian Paul Forbes interviewed the 10 exchange students on their experiences on safari this week, firstly asking everyone to introduce themselves by telling us where they are from and anything else they would like the share.

Georg (15) from Austria living in Portland at the moment having a great time.  Enjoys being involved in Rotary.  Family sent me a DVD on a white Christmas.

Amelie (17) from Hamburg in Germany on exchange in Portland.  Went to Perth, play netball, really good game.  Involved in a triathlon.  After mini safari I will attempt another triathlon.  Snow was a nice trip.

Gaby from Brazil, Horsham is a really small town, really enjoying on exchange there.  Enjoys the bush and bowling.  Very hot here.  Snakes & spiders at home but still terrifying here.  We went to have a shower and accompanied by insects.

Maddie from Denmark, enjoying the surf Warrnambool has to offer.  Currently living in Portland.

Erik from Cologne in Germany, enjoying time in Australia, especially football. Day I arrived watched AFL, think it is a great game.  Enjoy singing Geelong football theme song.  Really surprised at the size of Australia, 9-10 hours to Canberra.  If I travelled the same amount of time in Europe I would have crossed a number of countries.  Christmas very different here.

Etienne from France in the wine region, staying in Horsham on a grain farm, wheat, barley, cattle.  Snakes, spiders & vegemite make an impression on me.

Andi from Taiwan staying in Naracoorte.  Christmas was good to experience, played squash.  Visited Mount Gambier. Shooting trips.

Yanick from Denmark, living in Warrnambool, 17 today.  Fishing went well until I was seasick with Shane Keogh, enjoying the beach and weather.

Robbie’s swindle; green ticket won by exchange student Erik, winning $4
Closing tonight, President Michael welcomed Jeff back to the Club anytime.  Next week we will have a presentation from Guyett’s Funerals, I will be away all of next week at the Rotary International Fellowship Cricket-loving Rotarians Festival in Melbourne.  Brian will be your acting President next week.

Thought for the week: The difference between a successful person and others is not lack of strength, not lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will.
A MEMBERSHIP MOMENT
The Rotary Club of Tamworth (UK, D 1060) has chosen 24-year-old, Kyle Raffo, to lead the Club with the aim of widening the group’s appeal and attracting new members over the next 12 months.

Kyle, who is known for running successful businesses in the town, said: “I joined Rotary around four years ago because I wanted to get involved in the local community and help raise funds as part of an organisation.” “I’ve really enjoyed it so far as it’s a great way to meet and work with other like-minded people who are looking to come together for the benefit of others in the local area. “I was able to get stuck into a variety of projects straight away.

What’s your story?

“Membership is Everyone’s Responsibility”
FRIENDS OF ST BRIGID

Notice that the meeting on 29th January will be at CROSSELY.  It is for Friends of St Brigid and is a Rural Urban Night. (No Barn Dancing we hope). It is a fundraiser for FoSB’s to enable the group to meet their financial commitments for the year. Please attend, with guest speaker being the one and only John Beks on the subject of “Clog Wogs”, which will cover the struggles and successes of Dutch migrants in the early fifties in our district.

Please notify David Brown of intentions to attend or not with guests.  Meal Cost is $22, with drinks at Bar Prices.

GUEST SPEAKER
At our next meeting (22/1/2019) we welcome a presentation by Adam Jones, a funeral director for 15 years and trained embalmer at Guyett's.

After our meal he intends to give a brief overview of how he came to be working in the funeral industry, prior to taking us on a conducted tour through the Eastern Park facility.

He will outline what will be shown and answer questions.

Few of us choose or get the opportunity to experience the internal workings of a funeral parlour, until it is too late!

At this stage it is not known if Adam will ask for volunteers for an embalming demonstration.
HELP END POLIO
Please remember to bring unwanted 5c coins to meetings each week. The collection jar is on the attendance table.

Thank you.
