Food Share:
Amanda Hennessy gave members an interesting talk on her organisation, the Western District Food Share, This organisation aims to support individuals and families facing food insecurity by distributing emergency food supplies. They work closely with over 100 partner organisations and schools to reach those in need. Annually they assist over 70,000 people by providing the equivalent of 448,394 meals, diverting 312,000kg of food from landfill.
Disappointingly 7.6 million tonnes of food is wasted per year in Australia, 1/3rd is from our homes. Food Share rescue surplus food from local bakeries, supermarkets and producers from landfill.
Thank you Amanda and Food Share for this vital service to those in need.
Thank you to everyone who brought along a cereal box for donation!
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Month:
Rotary International’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programs, a core focus area, have invested over $130 million in more than 2,000 projects since 2013. These projects provide sustainable clean water through wells, rainwater harvesting, filtration systems, and hygiene education to schools and communities worldwide, reducing waterborne diseases and improving local livelihoods.
