The chair for the night was Louise Koegh our Youth Director.
She presented the 2 groups of youth for the night.
We started off hearing from the Warrnambool and Moyne Youth Achieveres Overall winners.
She asked them to tell us what they did to win in the 4 areas
-Academic
-Community
-Sports
-Arts & Culture
Josh's passion is Karate. He has earned his black belt, while coaching younger team members, as well as participating in tournaments overseas. As well as doing very well academically.
Gabby finds that music inspires her to reach out to people and make them feel better. Her motivation for getting up in the morning is, "What can I do to make a difference?". She also giving aerial and pole dancing a go.
Cooper's joy is arts & culture. He was the lead in his schools production of Les Mis. He has written and recorded his own songs and is going overseas to further his musical career. He volunteers at Aus Child as a mentor, an organisation who assist disadvantaged children financially. Cooper was a recipient himself in the form of a scholarship which allowed him to buy a guitar.
A RYPEN view.
Louise thanked Phillip Richie for taking the students to Creswick and Louise Brennan for bringing them home. It is a 3 day camp of Youth Leadership transitioning into adulthood.
Horizon gained confidence to speak in front of others, not to judge people by first impressions, to listen to others ideas and by listening to one of the guest speakers he is now thinking about the effort he needs to put into his school work to achieve his goals.
Sharna felt enriched by meeting and listening to the other people who were there. Feeling confident to communicate with other people and to be able to show respect to others. She also enjoyed that there was an activity with a clown that let them break barriers to be children & themselves.
Sophie found that even though they did not know each other that the group bonded really well.
One of the activities they had to answer 52 questions which revealed their personalities, which Sophie said was pretty spot on. The group still keeps in contact via social media and are planning a get together.
All students thanked Louise for her support and encouragement as well as the Rotary Club . They all expressed gratitude for the experiences they have had.
