Appreciation Night at Surfside Caravan Park has been scheduled for Tuesday 23 October in lieu of a
Rotary meeting. Guests from Camp Quality, Surfside Caravan Park, Rotarians who contributed to
working bees 25 years ago and other stakeholders to be invited. A draft ‘letter of welcome’ for the
Camp Quality Cabin is being prepared for users, together with an information folder identifying local
attractions and amenities.
Warrnambool Show; we have revised our roster to include the cattle gates from Thursday to Sunday.
With two people on the gate this increases our requirement for volunteers by 70 hours. We are also
willing to utilize EFTPOS machines and scanners, I suggest that we delay the training until you have
the scanners. The revised budget, as requested is $2550.
RSL; funding request to assist with electronic equipment, being followed up.
Warrnambool Gift Sponsorship – raise at next Group 5 Meeting.
Administration; Delia is compiling a list of instructions on how to do the weekly set up and pack up
of meetings, including operating the EFTPOS machine for the attendance table.
Membership; Brian - Club Survey has been completed by members, findings from the survey have
been sent to the Board. A sub-committee has been formed to discuss and make recommendations.
• A one day Membership seminar to be held at the Mid-City Motel on 14th October @ $55 p/h.
• Prospective member - Mrs Helen Farnsworth-Paris (Aged Care CEO Mercy Place), endorsed by
board to admit to membership.
• Formalising the offer of three free meals for potential new members to the Club, the attendance
table will have an updated list identifying the new members each week.
Youth Form 3; families hosting exchange students requested to complete Form 3 within our Rotary
Club. Completed (2 members) awaiting one referee, then forms can be signed off by President.
• Canadian visitors, both members and their partners to our district would require an equivalent
to our WWCC when exchange students are present.
• An application for Volunteer Grant has been completed by our Secretary Sharon, funds will be
utilized for sundry items; first aid kit, Windows 365 with capacity to operate up to 5 PC’s.
Treasurer – Terry made recommendations to upgrade MYOB software which will enable a 6 year
window before renewal will be required in the future. Currently an issue with opening excel and
word.

2. Rotary Club of Ballarat South seeking support for their 2018-19 car raffle; 1 st prize Mazda CX – 5
Maxx Sport Auto $38K value & 2 nd prize Mazda 2Maxx Manual $21.5K value. Tickets are to hand
and will be distributed shortly.
3. A copy of the latest Asset Register received by the Board.
Foundation; Ann advised ‘money tubes’ for members to fill over the year have been ordered. Club
to purchase and distribute.
• Bohemian Rhapsody film night fundraiser, engage with other five Rotary Clubs, aiming for 300
attendees over 2 theatres. Thursday November 1, 2018 at 7pm Capital Theatre.
Public Image – Richard; Bulletin going well new interim editor with George McLeod.
• New contacts at The Standard and 3YB.
• Widen membership FB and Instagram (watch this space)
Vocational; Mal has several workplace visits scheduled; awards and pride of workmanship possible
nominees.
Correspondence:
• 2017 Financial audit statement signed by our President Michael.
• Water Provision Project, PNG; project went well this year, currently six Rotary Clubs are
involved. Excellent coverage in The Standard highlighting the positive results from the venture
this year.
• Ted King Park; correspondence to the Manager Recreation & Culture of the
Warrnambool City Council. We wish to sponsor ‘Ted King Park’ to enhance the riverside value of
the area and hopefully raise the classification of the park from Local or Neighbourhood to a
Regional open space over time.

Anne Adams
Anne has the raffle books and tickets for the Fashion Parade on Sunday October 14 th . Can
each Rotary member please sell/purchase one book of Raffle tickets please. Tickets for the
night are $20.
Andrea Sampson
Boomerang bags. Andrea is a part of a group who are sewing bags made of recycled
materials. They have thousands of blue hand surgeons hand towels which they are using.
They have converted over ¼ of a tonne of these into shopping bags to replace the plastic
ones. If you would like to help by sewing some bags Andrea can supply the pattern or if you
have any spare material that can be used please bring in and give to Andrea. Andrea will
look into the cost if anyone is interested in purchasing some of the bags.
Hannah
Hannah spoke beautifully and thanked the Club for having her over the past few months
and also a big thank you to Steve and Louise for being her Foster parents. Tonight was her
last night with us.
Tony Austin
Part of the PNG project is making Female Hygiene packs. This project is well under way and
some money has already been allocated to this project but Tony has come by some packs of
Christmas cards and the sales will go to this project. Packs of cards are $5.
Keith McLeod
Keith let us know that Ron Rauert has been in hospital for the past two weeks. He returned
from a holiday with his family and was taken unwell with a bit of a turn that was a
borderline heart attack. Currently they are not letting him out of hospital though he is
travelling well.
A Membership Moment
Rotary is a membership organisation and if we want to achieve the goals we’ve set
ourselves, we need to put membership first. All of us have a responsibility to take
membership seriously, not only by inviting prospective members, but also by making sure
new members are welcomed into the club that offer them something of value.
If you’re enthusiastic about a Rotary program or project, make sure the club knows about it
and knows how to get involved. If you see a need in the community, talk about it.

Port Fairy Rotary Club are holding an Open Gardens Day on Sunday 28 th October. All
welcome and encouraged to attend. Some beautiful gardens on display.
Guest Speaker – DG Anthony Olhsen
Anthony presented a very informative presentation with lots of interesting facts.
Some points of interest:
• He explained the message behind the ‘Be the Inspiration’ symbol. The colours of the
land and the wave of the ocean.
• The Rotary Wheel of excellence has changed colour and is now only yellow. No
longer any blue in the wheel.
• Video of RI President – Barry Rassin – New Vision Statement – “Together we see a
world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe
– in our communities – and in ourselves.” Encouragement to have Rotary days across
the world to increase awareness of Rotary and to encompass all demographics and
become a truly diverse group. RI has partnered with Toastmaster International to
provide collaboration for improving/increasing public speaking opportunities. Aim to
double the number of Rotaract groups across the world.
• Anthony showed many graphs with interesting data comparing the Global, District
and Warrnambool Rotary data on many trends with number of volunteers and
volunteer hours, ages, years of service, genders, etc.
• The District Conference of 2019 is in Maryborough on March 22 nd – 24 th .
• Anthony is helping organise and will provide further details on a Rotary Relay Ride
for Polio that will travel through all Cities with Rotary Clubs in our District.
