Comments:
  • Thank you to Ian Cairns for arranging last week’s visit to Ace Radio. We were fortunate to have the owner and Managing Director along with Station Manager Peter Headon. Very interesting discussion about the success of our local radio stations and the recent developments in the business. Good opportunity to see what a modern day radio studio is like.
  • Tonight we say thanks to our supporters for our Dinner auction and present a cheque to the major beneficiary from this year’s auction, the Warrnambool Special Development School. Your Board has made a commitment to have the Special Development School as the major beneficiary for the next two years.
  • I am pleased to report that the Warrnambool and District Rotaract Club has been reformed with Riahna Byron as President, Sarah Adams as Secretary and Ned Chalmers as Treasurer. A major focus of the group will be to organise a dance/disco for young people in Warrnambool. Please continue to ask young friends and acquaintances to join this group. Next gathering is on 20th July for coffee.
  • Presentation to Keith McLeod. Keith gave me two books to read when I took up golf. He said they would make me a good golfer. Keith they failed and you can have the books back.
  • Badges for Steve Giddens and Sharon Stark
Remember next Week will be meetings of  Committees with David Brown being back from his trip north.

Fines session: Ian Cairns was again able to extract funds for a good course from members. Rapturous applause at end.
Dinner Auction Cheque presentation

Michael Boyd introduced Glenn Brotchie, Chairperson of the Dinner Auction committee, who gave a brief rundown to members and guests, outlining the success of the activity in both community and members involvement, as well as the financial return.

Kate Darmanin accepted a cheque for $8,000 from the Rotary Club of Warrnambool.  Kate is a school councilor, and apologized for the absence of staff members due to the school holidays.  Kate then gave an outline of the progress being made at the site, indicating that it may not be utilized for students until the start of next year’s school year.

Kate also gave a report on the facilities at the school and how both the staff and students are looking forward to going into the new, modern, and technologically advanced facilities.  The area will even have a space for running and playing on a much larger scale than the old facility.

The school has a fund-raising target of $1,000,000 so as to provide the ‘other’ things that the government does not provide in the buildings of new schools.  She was much appreciative of our commitment over the next two years.

The meeting closed with another profound deep thought:

Deep thought for the week:
I would agree with you, but then we would both be wrong.
