SPECIAL GUEST -  LORRAINE SMITH

Lorraine Smith was introduce by chairman Anne Adams.

Lorraine was born and raised in Warrnambool, attending Jamieson St Primary school then Warrnambool Texhnical school in Timor street. She studied applied science - chemistry at WIAE before qualifying as a maths and science teacher.

She taught in Melbourne for a couple of years before moving back to Warrnambool in 1980. After raising a family of four children with husband Neil, who has a digital printing business, Lorraine opened a second hand book shop in 2000.

She has been researching her family history for 30+ years and wrote a book on this in 2013. In 2015 co-wrote a book -'Warrnambool, a Photographic View' with Neil who is a keen photographer. Since 2014 Lorraine has had a particularly interesting research project on the go and she is now going to tell us all about it.

Journey of a lost manuscript.

An amazing story of how an unusual document which turned out to be a deed for land back in 1582, was found in an old second hand book and how this led Lorraine across the world and back again in search of understanding what it was and meant and how it came to be in her possession.

Read the book. Available for $35 from Lorraine.

Amazing research and history.

CLOSING REMARKS

President Michale thanked our guest speaker and many other guests for the night and finished the meeting with the following comment:

"The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want and if they can't find them, they make them."
