 President Marie welcomed members, members guests Ben Stark and Ryan Keogh, our Outward Bound Student who heads off to Finland next year, and a large number of guests including Mark Fidge, CEO SWTAFE, Melissa Murrihy, her mother Jenny and cousin Mark; Jessica Prowd and her fiance Alex, mother Anne, Alana, and Trish; Mollie Coghlan-West and parents Maggie and Chris.
President Marie also announced to members of the sad passing of Sue McNally. Our thoughts are with Robert and his family at this sad time.

Auction Certificates and Invitations
Michael Boyd advised members that all the certificates and invitations have been prepared and have been distributed to members to give out to the relevant businesses. There were a number of Rotarians absent on the night, so anyone wishing to take on some more deliveries, please let Michael know. It is important that these are delivered to businesses this week because of the short timeframe to the appreciation night on 30 June.

.jpg) Background to the project
In November 2007 Oro Province in Papua New Guinea suffered extensive flooding, loss of life and property damage during Cyclone Guba. One of the many villages in Oro Province that were devastated by the cyclone was Sariri. Subsequent to the disaster Elijah Sarigari, a former teacher and one of the community leaders of Oro Province, made contact with his former PNG school Principal, Reverend Donald Johnstone, who was living in Geelong at the time of the disaster, seeking help. Reverend Johnstone in turn contacted Anton Van Doornik of the Rotary Club of Geelong. Both Reverend Johnstone and Anton went to Sariri and it was agreed that assistance in rebuilding could be provided. Since then there have been Rotary teams working at Sariri Village in 2011, 2013 and 2015.
The 2015 Sariri Project
On March 28 a container of materials, equipment and donations for the 2015 Sariri project left Australia for Oro Province, PNG.
The 2015 project team was scheduled to leave Australia on 11 May however due to the container arriving late this had to be postponed; the container arrived at Oro Bay late May.
The 2015 project team was finally able to depart Australia on 31 May and returned 13 June.

Vocational Services chair Gordon Curran introduced SW TAFE CEO Mark Fidge to assist with the presentations.
Each year the club makes a grant of $1,000 to a SW TAFE student demonstrating good academic progress, who is active in some form of community or student service, and who could benefit from some financial assistance. Previous winners have included 2014 Rebecca Kenny (nursing) and Dylan Murphy (hospitality) both of whom have gone on to do well in their studies.
This year’s winner was Melissa Murrihy, a VCAL Intermediate student with an interest in event management. In introducing Melissa to President Marie, TAFE CEO Mark Fidge said that prior to moving to Warrnambool to begin a new life, Melissa had experienced some challenging life and school experiences. As part of her studies, Melissa assisted with the development and implementation of the recent Teens on the Green project and really went the extra mile to make sure the project was a success. Always positive and respectful, her teachers state that Melissa genuinely appreciates the opportunities TAFE has provided her. She has been selected to work on the Freeza committee where she will continue to be a voice for fellow young people in the South West and further develop her event management, communication and project planning skills. The Freeza program is an innovative youth development program that provides opportunities for young people aged 12-25 to enjoy live bands and other cultural, recreational and artistic events that are drug, alcohol and smoke-free in supervised and safe venues. President Marie presented Melissa with a framed certificate and cheque which Melissa said would enable her to pay off her TAFE fees. Melissa thanked both Rotary and TAFE for the award, and said that everyone at TAFE has been so encouraging and in their support.
Gordon Curran then announced that a donation of $750 enabled two further awards to be made.
The first of these awards was presented to Jessica Prowd. Jessica is completing a Certificate III Business Administration, and is employed as a trainee at SW TAFE with the Off Campus/Business Industry Department. She is well on track to completing her course, and undertook volunteer work with Lyndoch, Mercy Place and with Emmanuel College whilst in Year 12 last year. Jess is described as a bright and enthusiastic student with a good work ethic. President Marie presented Jess with her award and cheque. Jessica thanked Rotary and TAFE for this award, and especially thanked her teachers for nominating her. She is looking forward to developing her skills through further study, and going on to enjoy a career in administration.
The final recipient of an award was Mollie Coghlan-West who is also completing Certificate Ill Business Administration. She is a trainee at Warrnambool City Council, and has been making good academic progress, with her quality of work being of a high standard. Mollie is a courteous and polite student who is keen to finish her studies and progress further either with university or other higher education options. Mollie is involved in Koroit Netball Club and helps out with club activities including netball training sessions. In 2014 she coached the under 14 Netballers. President Marie presented Mollie with a certificate and cheque and Mollie thanked Rotary and TAFE for her award.

Gordon Curran introduced SW TAFE CEO Mark Fidge as guest speaker. Mark grew up in Terang and completed his accountancy studies at WIAE/Deakin Warrnambool. After working away for some years, Mark came to SW TAFE as Finance Manager and later Executive Manager of Corporate Services. He was appointed CEO earlier this year, and replaces Peter Heilbuth who has taken up a position as director of TAFE New England. Despite his youthful appearance, Mark brings 10 years experience in higher education to the position. He is passionate about engaging with, and listening to, the training needs of our region, and is focused on both improving job opportunities for students and better employee outcomes for industry.
South West TAFE’s primary aim is to provide students with world class training and the very latest skills. Beginning way back in the 1800s, South West TAFE has grown to become the largest and best regarded provider of skills training in south-west Victoria. South West TAFE strives to go a step further than other training providers. To ensure that the skills training provided is for in-demand jobs, they actively develop training programs to help address regional skills shortages. As a result, graduates have a very high chance of finding employment and excelling in their chosen field. SW TAFE offers a wide range of accredited qualifications, plus short courses and stand-alone units from industry training packages. In addition there are pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship, traineeship, vocational and graduate studies, industry certificates and TAFE in Schools programs.
Study modes are also flexible, and include on campus, off campus, on site and online learning. The teachers, training facilities, support services and direct links with industry are second to none, enabling students to gain the insights and practical skills that their career and personal goals rely on. SW TAFE is also active in the community, providing supported education to students with special needs. Vital youth programs offer young people the chance to reconnect and engage. Campuses are located in Warrnambool, Portland, and Hamilton, with facilities and services set to expand as the region grows. A recent graduation ceremony took place in China as well.
