Board Meeting last week: Brooke reported that the cost of the Science & Engineering challenge has gone up to $25k.
Brooke also suggested having function to farewell exchange students Maria and Lex on the 6th January. The Bowling Club is not available to us that night.
Glenn has been in contact with Sharna from the Cancer Clinic. The Clinic will be celebrating its 10 years of operation next year and we are invited to be involved.
Glenn suggested a “Dutch” Auction on “Thanksgiving Day” the 2nd December to raise funds for the Rotary Foundation.
Glenn, Anne and myself met with Courtney Matthew at the Japanese Garden last Wednesday. The Garden is in need of some serious maintenance and there’s scope for potential improvements. It may not be the ideal place for Peace Poles and we will contact high schools to see if they can be placed in school grounds. Meanwhile we will explore the possibility of this Clubs involvement in improving the Japanese Garden.
Glenn proposed having a Dutch Auction on Thanksgiving day, Tuesday the 2nd December.
Congratulations Chris and Kelly for their supervision of our Noorat Show job. It might be a relief to Tony to know that these events can run well without his presence.
The Annual General Meeting to elect office bearers for 2026-2027 was held and the following members were duly elected: Svetlana (VP), Rachel PE), Leon (Sec), Ken (Treas), Brooke (PI), Angela (CS), Kelly (Membership), Terry (Foundation)
A motion to award Honorary Membership to Elijah Sarigari in recognition of his support for the PNG project was passed.
Roger Cussen’s and Nicole Larter from East Warrnambool RC spoke about the history off the Hole in One competition and what is required of volunteers conducting the event. The event has raised over $900k since inception and generally raises a net $70k per event. The roster for next year is 70% full and there will be an offer to ourselves and Clubs to participate.
Announcements: Glenn is looking for donations for the “Dutch” Auction on the 2nd December. Rachel has had a representative from Camp Quality inspect our cabin and was delighted by its condition and amenities. Well done Rachel.
Our Guest Speaker Major Leigh Brown gave us a very interesting and revealing talk about his career in the Army, his progression to Major and his many deployments here and overseas. He is currently stationed in Warrnambool and is reaching out to local groups to better integrate the military with local communities. He is married to an Allansford lady and after a posting in South Korea expects to settle in Warrnambool.

Excursion Time!
The Rotary Club of Warrnambool and the Rotary Club of Port Fairy will be taking an adventure out to St Brigid's at Crossley on WEDNESDAY 26th (instead of the usual Tuesday).
We would love you to come and explore the amazing work out at the hall, and have some great fellowship with our sister club. We do need to know numbers, please get in contact with John Beks or Leon to confirm your place. Price pp will be followed up.

Congratulations to Rotarians Janet and Sarah on their recent Volunteer Awards!
The 2025 Wannon Sport and Volunteer awards were presented by the honorable Dan Tehan MP in Colac this week. Rotarians Janet and Sarah were nominated by Tony and the club for the amazing work they have done towards the Early Loss Memorial Tree and the Wish Collective. Both projects link together to become an an amazing resource for grieving families around the district.
Well Done Janet and Sarah, we are so proud of you!
Giving Tuesday
refers to Rotary's participation in the global Giving Tuesday movement, which encourages members to give back to their communities and support Rotary's causes. This includes donating money, time, or skills to The Rotary Foundation, which funds projects like polio eradication, disease prevention, clean water initiatives, and local economic development. It's a day for individual members, clubs, and Rotaract members to contribute to these humanitarian efforts.

This coming week, our club will hold a Dutch Auction to raise money towards the foundation. Remember, these projects internationally are matched by the Bill and Malinda Gates foundation!
A note from Glenn:
So on Tuesday December 2 our club will be having a
Dutch Auction,
where members can bid for a range of items. This bidding will take place via
a sheet of paper placed in front of the items where members can formally
write in their name and their bid in $$$$.
Of course other members might bid more for the items by putting the name
and bid in $$$$ plus a little more below the previous bid.
At the end of the night the highest bidder for each item will take home the
prize.
It would be great if we can have up to 10 items to be auctioned. Already 2
members have contributed a lovely cake and a really nice bottle of red wine.
Donations of an item can be anything of value, both new or used.
If any members can see fit to put something on the table could they let Glenn
know what item it is by the 28th November so that he can make up the
appropriate display for our meeting on Tuesday December 2.
All monies raised will of course go towards the Giving Tuesday appeal, which
can then be used on RI’s wonderful projects both international and within our
own communities.

Reminder! We are collecting 10c bottles for our projects. This is a really easy way of earning 100% profit for out club. You can utilise the app, or Brooke has business cards with the barcode on it. All you need to do is scan the barcode at the machine, then put the bottles in.
Alternatively, you can put your bottles in the bucket at each Rotary meeting, or drop them to Brooke and George's house on Kelp St.
Brooke is cutting her hair again for charity!
Every few years Rotarian Brooke grows out her hair and cuts it off to donate towards making wigs for sick children. It has come to that time! Brooke will be donating to the wig making store in Melbourne which was recently robbed. To help support them, she will donate her hair directly to the shop and fundraising with their linked charity 'MyRoom' which supports kids with cancer.
