Sergeant Andrea Sampson spoke to Rotarians about Pippa, a 9 year old Jamieson Street student, who has just been diagnosed with a rare tumour and is currently undergoing radio therapy at the Peter MacKinnon Institute. She has two brothers and her mother is single. To help out this family, a Cocktail Party and auction are being held on Saturday night. Cost $50 per head. If interested in attending, contact Andrea.
John Reid
Ian Sadler advised that he called John this morning and they had a long chat. John is in good spirits after having had a skin graft which he is confident will work well. Rotarian Ian Cairns advised that a record number of entries (998) had been received for Father of the Year and it was going to be a difficult job choosing a winner. Interviewing of finalists commenced this week.
The Premier, Denis Napthine will be attending, as well as the Mayor Cr Michael Neoh, the Mayor Moyne Shire Cr Jim Doukas, representatives from ACE Radio, South West Credit, Bunnings, Good Guys and other sponsors. The MC will be Peter Headen from 3YB Coast FM Community Radio and guest speaker will be Brian Brown. Prizes to the value of $4,000 will be awarded at the event which will be covered by local and statewide television, radio and newspapers.
A challenge has been issued by Brophy Family and Youth Services to see who has the biggest attendance. Please support this major club event and get your tickets from Svet.
A fund raising film night for the Papua New Guinea Highlands Foundation mother and baby kits will take place on Tuesday September 3 at the Capitol Theatre at 6:30 pm, cost $20. Sweets will be served.

Chairman Ian Cairns introduced our guest speaker, Peter Headen, Manager of 3YB Coast FM Community Radio. Peter described how Ace Radio, owned by the Handbury family, has expanded from 15 staff 17 years ago when he started to its current 34 staff. Peter has been an active member of the local community for over 17 years, committing his time to a number of groups including:
Peter's Project - Peter has been a passionate supporter of Peter's Project since its inception and through his dedication to this cause Peter has facilitated conversation and action by local and federal governments in getting this project closer to being a reality for the South West Community. Recently Peter has become Chairman of Peter's Project Target $5 Million Appeal.
Club Warrnambool and the Business Achievement Awards - Peter is committed to promoting and supporting Warrnambool's business sector and has been instrumental in the establishment of these initiatives which promote and highlight the amazing success of local businesses in the region.
Community Groups - Rotary, Lions, Fun 4 Kids, Homemade Jam Concert, Relay for Life, Light the Night, Southwest Games, Rotary House, Father of the Year, Chaplaincy Appeal, Careers Expos, Standing Tall, Wunta, 32 Hour Challenge, Hampden Football League are just some of the community organisations Peter has provided assistance to over his years as General Manager of 3YB and Coast FM.

Peter recently received the Citizen of the Year award on Australia Day 2013.
So after difficult start in Warrnambool 17 years ago, with a family reluctant to move from Horsham to Warrnambool, not knowing anyone in Warrnambool, and receiving bad press because of his new role with a Ace Radio, Peter has come a long way. Through hard work and dedicated community involvement, Peter has become highly regarded in Warrnambool and has grown to love the City, its people and has expressed a desire to retire here where all his his family has now settled.
President John Hunt thanked Peter for his interesting speech and presented him with a certificate for a mosquito net for a needy family in Papua New Guinea.
President John advised members that Mick White from Western District Employment Access (WDEA) has invited members to inspect the new WDEA building next Tuesday from 3:00 pm.
Rotarians were reminded that next week's guest speaker was Graham Bedford, Mens' and Family Relationships Coordinator at Brophy Family and Youth Services. Graham will be talking about Father of the Year and the importance of the father figure. Members were also encouraged to attend the Father of the Year Breakfast to be held at the Warrnambool Bowls Club at 7:00 am 30 August. Tickets can be purchased from Svet Lineham.
Members were also reminded about the District Governor's visit on 10 September and the film night on 3 September.
