Well it turned into a reasonably big nite last Tuesday. We heard on the status of lots of projects over the course of the evening.
Wish Collective
Sarah filled us in on the amazing amount of work she’s been doing behind the scenes for the Wish Collective. There’s some exciting things in the works that we hope come to fruition. On a more practical note, the kits that we assembled earlier this year have mostly been handed out, so we are going to need another session before the end of the year to build more kits. More information will follow over the coming weeks.
Terry’s 10k run
Terry filled us in on his 10k run last Sunday, and I must admit I got tired just thinking about the route, let alone running it. Terry has raised $1000 from sponsors, which becomes $3000 after the Gates foundation 2 for 1 so that’s a great effort Terry.
Uncle Ron’s Train
Kerrie Marney came along to tell us about her journey to save Uncle Ron’s train. I must admit that this is a great service to the community in saving a piece of history and members should be proud that our club was able to help out in a small way.
Street Library
Yours truly informed the club about the street library project that has been approved by the board. This project is aimed at making children’s and young adult’s books more accessible to the community by building and placing a number of small, free, book libraries at locations around Warrnambool. It is hoped to place these at, or near, kindergartens and primary schools. We will be looking for volunteers to create a small committee to see this project through.
DV Safe Phone
Leon informed the club about the board’s decision to support this initiative by organising a morning tea, probably early December, to raise funds and awareness of this program, and also to take donations of old phones. For those unaware, this project takes second hand phones, erases and prepares them for use, and provides them to victims of domestic violence. This is a very worthwhile cause and is environmentally friendly as well.
Show Gates
Tony let the club know that show gate season is approaching. The first session will be the Warrnambool Show, to be held on Saturday 31st October. It will be all hands on deck as we will need to fill quite a few slots. It’s worth remembering that proceeds from the show gates subsidise our membership dues and benefits all club members.
Jock Serong
Next Tuesday is a presentation by Jock Serong. We already have a good number of guests, so if you are going to be attending, or are bringing a guest, please let Glenn know ASAP. Spaces are filling up fast.
Yours in Rotary,
Chris.
Rotarians, it has been this amount now in our Early Loss Memorial can/bottle collection for a few weeks. I went for a walk today around my area, plenty of building sites, hot weather now, picked up .80c worth of bottle, cans, cartons. I now have more than $5:00 worth to go into Areable Can deposit centre tomorrow. Are you aware that Areable gets an extra .05c per container deposited at their depot. So it's a double whammy, .10c for rotary, ..05c for those lovely people working at Areable.

A Wonderful Opportunity to hear about Jock Serong's perception of our past member and Warrnambool identity. It is an opportunity to bring along your partners, guests, whoever. Should be a terrific night. Jock, from Port Fairy, ex Warrnambool, has spoken to our club before and was very insightful about his experiences as a legal person, a family man, and as a writer.
Additions to the bulletin...
Please contact Glenn via brotchieg@gmail.com
Hi Rotarians. A wonderful presentation from our Sarah Wallace on the Wish Collective. What an inspiring person she is. I have put in a link in this newsletter to her Wish Collective web page. As well Kerry Marney spoke about Uncle Ron's Train and the process in getting it relocated. Two feel-good stories. Pity about the Club Planning sessions. We were all looking forward to it, however the two projects Pres Chris mentioned at the end will be very worthwhile ones, once put into place.
It looks like a popular speaker this coming Tuesday. Jock Serong is an established author, and his book on Fletcher Jones is mind-boggling regarding what Fletcher went through and his positive outcomes after WW1, as well as his process in settling in Warrnambool.
Let me know by Friday if you are attending as we may need to change the room at the Bowls club.
Below are the important dates for the RYLA program next year.

At Wish Collective, we are dedicated to advocating for families experiencing fertility challenges and pregnancy loss. We provide compassionate support, education, and community for both individuals and health professionals seeking to better navigate these sensitive journeys.
Through our products, we empower people to offer meaningful ways to comfort people in this space when words fall short.
Our mission is to bridge the gap in support and shed light on these often-taboo topics, fostering open conversations and ensuring no one feels alone—whether they are walking their own path to parenthood, or standing beside someone they love. by Sarah and Steven Wallace through their personal experience of trying to conceive (TTC), assisted fertility technologies (ARTs), surgeries and loss. Sarah and Steve became acutely aware of the mental, emotional, physical, and financial challenges intertwined with fertility treatments, often prompting feelings of isolation.
This experience became the driving force behind creating a space dedicated to offering support, building awareness, and fostering a community of understanding.
Wish Collective is more than a initiative, it's a compassionate community born out of lived experiences, with a mission to make the path to parenthood a little less lonely...
