On an evening in April, more than 50 representatives from the Rotary Peace Centers and members of the U.S. Olympic Committee who had gathered for an event in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA, were treated to a surprise: a pre-dinner performance by the U.S. men's Olympic gymnastics team. Rotaract Outstanding Project Award recognizes innovative programs
Though they were a long way from home, members of the Rotaract Club of Bugolobi, Uganda, felt confident they could tackle problems in rural Kanabulemu during their annual 1000 Smiles project. Their original plan focused on curtailing the spread of HIV/AIDS. PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

President Steve Giddens welcomed everyone to the meeting, including guests John Knowles, Gary Coombes, Paul Forbes, Sarah Forbes, Jennie Johnson, Peter Johnson and Jo Pruis.

With this special meeting at the new Warrnambool Fire Station, Steve explained that there were 9 people on shift and that bells and buzzers would be going all night. He thanked and introduced Senior Station Officer, Greg Kinross who then spoke to the group.

He has been in contact with Ian Cairns who is currently in Geelong continuing his treatment. Ian is finding it harder and is starting to struggle as the treatment continues. He is appreciative of all the emails, phone calls and well wishes while he is going through this difficult time.

All members are welcome to attend any of the changeovers, which are published further down in the bulletin. It would be good to have representation from RCW at the District Changeover.

The Ice Challenge evening was a good night with some great speakers and around 120 people in attendance. The focus of this Challenge is on prevention and they now have 100 days to formulate plans to work out preventative measures.

A big THANKYOU to Svet for arranging the lovely meals for the evening.

Judy and Phillip Ross have been in touch and advised that they are having a great time and "not missing us"!!!

Wheelbarrow Raffle - we have the wheelbarrow! Now it needs to be filled, so please bring in items (new) which will be suitable for this raffle.

Wine Cellar - we will be doing one or two of these again this year, depending on the number of bottles donated, so we would be grateful for any wines donated by members.

Rotarians are welcome to donate items (new) for the auction if they wish.

Remember to book your tables with Robyn. If you don't have the numbers for a full table, Robin will organise a spot for you.

The new facilities are impressive and it was great to get a run down on the complexities of the equipment and systems of the station. A fantastic, spacious new facility which will serve the Warrnambool area for years to come. Thanks Steve for arranging this event.

A father told his three sons when he sent them to the university: "I feel it's my duty to provide you with the best possible education, and you do not owe me anything for that. However, I want you to appreciate it; as a token, please each put £1,000 into my coffin when I die."

And so it happened. The sons became a doctor, a lawyer, and a financial planner, each very successful financially. When they saw their father in the coffin on the day of his funeral they remembered his wish.

First it was the doctor who put £1000 into the coffin of the deceased. Then came the financial planner, who put £1,000 there, too. Finally, it was the heartbroken lawyer’s turn. He dipped into his pocket, took out his chequebook, wrote a cheque for £3,000, put it into his father's coffin, and took the £2,000 cash.
