April is Rotary’s Environment Month

The fantastic news locally for the environment is that Colleen Hughson has been awarded one of five Practice in Community grants through Regional Arts Australia.

Colleen has been cleaning our beaches for the last several years helped by volunteers including the Daybreak and Central Rotary Clubs. 

Colleen: “For the past eight years, @beachpatrol3280 has been responding to what washes ashore — collecting, documenting, and trying to make sense of it. We now know our coastline is one of the world’s wash-up zones for marine debris, yet there’s still no system in place to manage it.

This project is about creating space to sit with that reality together.

It’s about working alongside volunteers, artists, schools and community members to explore new ways of responding — not just through clean-ups, but through creativity, conversation, and shared problem-solving.

Because this isn’t a problem that can be solved by volunteers alone.

We’ll be partnering with @West Warrnambool Neighbourhood House to help deliver the project, and collaborating with a wide range of local organisations and individuals to make the most of this opportunity”
