President Michael continued with the meeting introduction;
Tonight, we are fortunate to have Catherine Reid, a Rotary Peace Scholarship Awardee as our guest speaker. Each year, Rotary fund some of the world’s most dedicated and brightest leaders to study at Rotary Peace Centres. Through training, study and practice, Rotary Peace Fellows become catalysts for peace and development. Look forward to hearing from you Catherine.
But first a Rotary business:
- We only have a brief time to fill the Lighthouse Theatre for the Peace Concert on Thursday, March 7 at the Warrnambool Lighthouse Theatre commencing at 7.15pm (brochure on each table). Rotary in Warrnambool needs to sell 200 tickets to break even. Tickets from Sharon Stark @ $30.
Part of the program will include a celebration of each Rotary Club’s nominations for Community Peace Awards. The Rotary Club of Warrnambool has submitted three nominations for those awards (thanks to Gerry, Richard, Anne & Delia). These are for individuals and groups who, we believe, are community peace builders. We will have an award session at one of our dinner meetings in the future.
- On your table tonight, there is an updated list of potential donors to our Dinner Auction
On June 1st. Please make notes and suggest changes. Hand to Glenn at the end of the meeting.
- Next week’s meeting on 26th February will not be here due to renovations, it will be at Images (downstairs, enter through back or front entrance) – same time, same cost. Guests speaker Stephanie Cantrill, Polio Survivor.

Tonight, Chair Ann Donaldson introduced Catherine Reid the principal of a Hand Therapy practice in Warrnambool on Raglan Parade. Catherine graduated as a therapist in 1985, initially working in Geelong and then specialising as a hand therapist in the USA. Catherine returned to Australia where she worked as a Senior Clinician in Hands at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, then St Vincent’s and PANCH in Melbourne.
Catherine took up the Ambassadorial Scholarship in 1998 to complete research for a Master of Science in Hand & Upper Limb Rehabilitation. Being accepted to study in the ambassadorial role offered many opportunities for Catherine, meeting people that ordinarily she may not have had the experience.
Catherine was hosted in London Ontario in Canada, the city has a population of 383,822 according to the 2016, very much a city of academia where the population diminishes substantially when students return home at the end of semesters). Many firm friendships formed during her stay, including a marriage proposal to a resident Canadian Catherine met whilst completing research on scar management. Life drew Catherine to the south west Victoria where her practice has been operating for some time, offering services in occupational therapy, principally hand therapy.
Robbie’s swindle (kitty $178); green ticket #61 won by Richard Hawker $2, congratulations you doubled your money.
Closing tonight, President Michael thanked our guests;
Thank you Catherine … “I did my experiment and there was no significant difference! Proved the experiment”.
Follow your Rotary Dream, last time Michael was President in 1998; scholarships, fellowships, exchanges all built on our experience. Emily, Catherine’s daughter went to the National Youth Science forum, we may see more of Emily.
