MORE TIPS FROM THE BOOK OF FORMULAS
Imitation Gold: All measurements by weight. 16 parts platina, 9 parts pure copper, 4 parts sheet zinc, 7 parts block tin, 6 parts pure lead. Melt and mix thoroughly together. If this alloy is found to be too hard, remelt it with a little sal ammoniac.
Another formula is: 2 parts of platina, 1 part of silver and 3 parts of copper. Melt together.
When prepared properly the imitation gold is almost identical to 18 carat gold. Always check that the alloy has the soft malleable texture of pure gold. If not, remelt and experiments with the sal ammoniac and a small amount of powdered charcoal.
