BASIC SOAP FORMULA

2 and a half pints cold water, 13 oz can of pure flake lye, 6 lb clean fat (tallow or lard). Slowly pour the lye into the water in a Pyrex, iron or enamel vessel. (Caution: lye is caustic do not spill on clothes or hands). Melt fat, pour in the lye solution stirring slowly then pour into moulds.

 

ROCKET FUEL

1 part sulphur, 2 parts wood carbon, 4 parts of niter, 1 part of meal powder (meal powder is a fine black or brown dust that acts as a diluent).

 

OLD AMERICAN PIONEER'S BALDNESS CURE

Boil half lb of green southern wood in 1 and a half pints of sweet oil. Add half pint port wine. Strain through a fine linen bag 3 times, each time adding fresh southern wood, then add 2 ounces of bear's grease and place near the fire until the bear's grease is dissolved. Mix and bottle.
