FATHER OF THE YEAR
Ian Cairns reminded members that schools have been notified that a Rotarian will be calling in next week to collect Father of the Year entries (commencing Monday 3-8-15).  He suggested that members collecting entries phone before visiting schools.  If possible drop the entries in to him at the Brophy Office, situated in the old Sinclair Wilson building (entrance via Ozone car park). On the meeting night August 11, Ian needs members to help sorting out entries (read and screen) before and after the meeting.  The Father of the Year Breakfast will be held on Wednesday September 2.
 
ROY SLATER
Tony Austin gave an update on how Roy is going. He is still waiting to go to St Vincent’s  Hospital. Our thoughts are with Kaye and Roy at this time. 
 
SARIRI VILLAGE PROJET
Tony Austin provided an update about the Sariri Village in Papua New Guinea, that Warrnambool Rotary Clubs and a Geelong Club are helping to rebuild.  An article in “The Standard” gave a half page coverage to this project (see below). They need the right sort of equipment and money.  Tony said they hope to get access to underground water, which will require a drill and pump.
 
VICTORIAN POICE MENTORING PROJECT
John Stuckey has been invited by President Steve to apply, as a mentor for the Victorian Police Mentoring Project . The program is an initiative of RC Melbourne Central and has been running for 9 years.  There are only 9 mentors and mentees and it involves Senior Sergeants and Rotarians who have also had business experience.  John said he accepted, and attended a mentors meeting in South Yarra. Only 2 were from the country. One particular part of the program is for the Policeman to come up with a project for which he will require the help of the Rotary Club.
Last Wednesday night John went to the Police Academy in Glen Waverley where he met his mentee who was from the Warrnambool Police Station.  John hopes to have him visit our Club shortly. John said he is looking forward to being involved in this project and is hopeful of involving members of our club as well.
 
JUDY ROSS brought to our attention a number of issues:
  • New table seating arrangements at meetings:  as you enter select a card - if you pick card 4 – sit at table 4.
  • FUN STUFF:  Judy sent out an email about FUN STUFF and a list of things we may enjoy doing. Copies were also placed on the tables at the meeting.  Reply after 18 August, when she returns.
  • Apologies:  David Brown is away until September 1. His details in the Bulletin will be replaced by Ravi’s. Lack of apologies is causing concern. Apologies can now be put in as late as 1.00pm Tuesday.  However, if you are too late, ring the Football Club.  If you know you will be absent for a future meeting, you may now lodge your apology at the attendance table. 
  • Trading Table:  To be a regular feature.  e.g. sell  jam, snow peas , other vegetables, fruit etc. If not sold, take home.
Anne Adams reported that the Roster for the State Final for the Science & Engineering Challenge has been filled.    It will be held at Deakin University on Thursday August 13, at   8.30 am to 3.00 pm.
