Rotary Bulletin Tuesday June 4th, 2019

Welcome to our guests tonight. Exchange student Lea and guests including the Jellie and Smith families and counsellor Phillip Ritchie.
- We had another outstanding night on Saturday with our Dinner Auction again a great success. We make a point that this event requires input from every club member as well as a hard working committee who plan and execute the event to the highest standard. There are a few people that I wish to formally acknowledge with a special gift: Could I ask Glenn Brotchie, Tony Austin, Robbie Blackmore and Andrea Sampson to come forward.
- Glenn Brotchie for overall leadership of the event and hours of work on the catalogue (Bag for carrying all vouchers around, hat, drink bottle, stress ball and stubby holder)
- Tony Austin for being the only person who can make those computers talk to one another (Hat, drink bottle, stress ball and stubby holder)
- Andrea Sampson for the hours of work and lone hand on the now famous wall. Note that inflation has hit $10 a go, but the quality has also risen. (Hat, drink bottle and stubby holder for Chris)
- Robbie Blackmore for dealing with constant registration changes right up to the last minute before the door opens. I don’t think Robbie wears a hat but I imagine a cool drink and two stress balls might be appropriate) (stubby holder and two stress balls)
- Thank you to everyone involved, the money raised means we have funds to pay for next year’s program of activities and a sizeable donation to the Special Development School.

- Ted King Park fencing is now ready to commence. The first step is to mark out the line of the fence. I would like to do that on Thursday or Friday and I need about 3 or 4 people to help for a couple of hours. We will then get a contractor in to drill the post holes and stand the fence up at a major club working bee after that. (Anyone available of Thursday or Friday?)
- Our Changeover dinner is in 2 weeks, 18th June and dates for other dinners have been published in the bulletin. Club members are encouraged to represent our club at these meetings.
- Make sure you let Anne know if you can help with the science and engineering challenge on 21st June.
- Football Gates next Saturday – is the roster filled Trevor? The following date is 29/6. Talk to Trevor if you are free.
- I have asked Tony Austin to give us a brief overview of the planned activities in PNG coming up soon. Once the first course is served.
Members Announcements
Anne Adams – Science and Engineering Challenge. A few more helpers would be good please if you have some time let Anne know. There will be dinner with the Deakin staff on the night before and everyone is welcome to join us.
Trevor Williams – Large quantity of garden mulch available. If you would like some see Trevor. There are 5 – 6 more footy games to go with the gates. See Trevor if you can help out.
Richard Hawker – URGENT - Situation Vacant - 2 X Bulletin Scribes. Start – Immediately. Good working conditions. Salary – Rotary Award. Apply in person to Richard Hawker if you can help out.
Alan Bowes – Has visited Ron Rauert in hospital – Room 8 at St Johns. He has a bit of a respiratory issue but is keen to have visitors if anyone can spare a few minutes to call in and have a chat.
Judy Ross – 5c Jar – Winner of the Jar of Yo Yo’s donated by Betty Nisbett is Judy’s son. There were 2,541 coins worth $127.05. A total of 168.05 was raised ($41 donation). We have started collecting again so bring along any spare 5c pieces you can to contribute to the next jar. Money raised going to End Polio. Thanks for your great work Judy.
Robbie Blackmore – Swindle. Keith was the winner drawing the 9.
Glenn Brotchie – Dinner Auction – Fantastic night with the results printed and placed on each table. In excess of $30,000 raised. ($29,824 + Wall of fortune + Raffle)
Tony Austin – PNG Project. Heading off soon. July 1st to July 31st. Mal, Ann, Ritchie Wilton and Ian Watson will be going. Two teams in total with another team going from Geelong. Tony refreshed our memories with a run down of the terrain and the villages they will be visiting over the month. Mostly finishing off works that weren’t finalised last year and checking on a few new opportunities to help out. In 2020 will be calling it 50 Pumps for 50 Villages.
Ann Donaldson - shared that she will be distributing 100 Units for Days for Girls. They are also starting on the next round for 2020 with a sewing day and the Alan Lane Pavilion on June 16th from 1 – 4pm. Bring along sewing machines, overlockers or come along and offer your time. Lots of jobs to do.
Exchange Students Presentation – Lea Constatin
Lea did a wonderful presentation summarising her experiences with us over the past 12 months. Some of the highlights she mentioned included visits to Torquay, Geelong, Portland and Port Fairy. The Great Ocean Rd, Wangoom and Hopkins Falls along with Canberra and all the amazing places on her Mini Safari to the Australian outback, Great Barrier Reef and Sydney to name a few. She also went to footy games (with her pants inside out), did scuba diving, cray fishing (got a bit sea sick), surfing (got sun burnt) and made it on the Wall of Fame at mini golf. She met kangaroos and koalas, did heaps of horse riding and thanked the many friends and families that have looked after her and made her stay such a success. Lea was presented with some of her gifts at an earlier presentation with Janick but tonight Lou announced that we would be paying for half of her new MacBook laptop. Lea had put together a beautiful recipe book with some of her favourite recipes to sell to help cover some of her costs and these are for sale for anyone who would like – now at a discounted price of $5.
