KARLA'S PRESENTATION

 
Tuesday night was Karla's last evening with RCW :(
From Day 1 Karla settled in really well and that continued throughout the year with all her host families who all really enjoyed her being part of their families - being introduced to the children, grandchildren and family members and becoming a real member of every host family. The only issue was getting Karla out of bed some mornings.
Karla was presented with her farewell gifts, a fabulous Acubra hat compliments of John Hunt, some lovely Ugg boots and Tower Hill artwork from all club members. The two boomerangs encompass Karla's year in Australia with us - one symbolises gathering together of family/Rotary family/school family/friendships and the second represents travelling and dreaming.
Karla thanked everyone for embracing her into Warrnambool and the memories she will take with her and have always.
Some memories of Warrnambool:
  • very windy
  • loved the ocean and the beautiful colours of blue
  • took a while to get used to town and find her way
  • school was a great place and very sad to say goodbye to fellow students and teachers. She really enjoyed the variety of subjects that are not available in Germany, so was great to experience them. Karla remembers the first day of school being very nervous and so sad to leave on the last day.
  • Girl Guides: Thursdays were great days, loved the experience of helping the young girls and all the activities. Thanks to Svet for being there.
  • Melbourne: a beautiful city, not what expected but totally loved it.
  • Mini Safari: Thanks for a great time and celebrating birthday with all the students and Terry was amazing and it was an awesome experience.
  • Colour Run: Thanks to Alice for taking her to experience it. It was amazing.
  • Qld/NSW: Thanks to Lou and Shane Keogh and family for a wonderful trip to NSW. Weather was great.
  • Enjoyed Sydney, Great Ocean Road, Flagstaff Hill, surrounding areas and thanks to Rob Cuzens for the opportunity to shear a sheep.
Host Families
First host family was Svet and Russell Lineham who took her on a trip along the Great Ocean Road.
Second host family was Andrea and Chris who took her to Canberra and Melbourne. This is where Karla learned to read a proper restaurant menu.
Third host family was Lou and Shane Keogh and Alice. Alice was a real sister to Karla and will always be. Thanks to Lou for all the hugs and Shane for jokes - was wonderful Aussie family experience.
Fourth host was Anne Adams where she had an amazing country experience and learnt to respect water and its importance.

Thank you to Rotary Warrnambool for hosting me. It was an amazing year with amazing memories and I hope to go home, finish school, travel some and do university and one day come visit Warrnambool again. And please visit Karla in Germany.
