GUEST SPEAKER - ANDREA VALLANCE

John Beks introduced guest speaker Andrea Vallance, who spoke about the Timboon Agricultural Program (TAP). Andrea is John’s daughter and works at Timboon P-12 College. She is married to Bruce, a dairy farmer from Nirranda, milking 650 cows.
About 4 years ago Andrea jumped at the invitation to join the staff at Timboon P-12 College. Her role is to coordinate, in partnership with WestVic Dairy, a novel curriculum approach in a program designed to stem decreasing retention rate of students at Timboon, to encourage higher uptake of maths/science subjects by senior students and to promote agriculture as an engaging career, and to make school more relevant and even pleasurable through applied learning. The program is in its 5th year and the support from the local community has been most gratifying. ABC’s Landline did a report on the TAP program in Timboon. In the next few weeks Andrea has accepted an invitation to speak in Canberra at the Conference of the Primary Industries Education Foundation Australia to showcase this innovative curriculum model.

Andrea invited Rotarians and friends to attend the TAP's On! 2016 on 10 November.
