When it comes to membership, action beats any amount of strategy sessions. When a prospective member turns up at our weekly meeting, we must respond actively. We can now skip the $22 meal costs for them for three meetings. We must ensure they’re surrounded by friends at their table, and next time they visit, we put them with a different table. Moreover, senior members should arrange to meet the visitor a couple of times over coffee during the following weeks. In doing this, we get to know the person and find out what they’re looking for. We should reassure them, they don’t have to turn up every week – but encouraged to participate and engage the key activities.
