Our guest speaker Emily who has a background in social work, introduced us to Amber
Community, a not-for-profit organisation established in 1994, dedicated to improving road
safety and supporting people affected by road trauma.
Amber Community provides free, confidential counselling and support for people impacted
by road or transport incidents, with no referral required.

Emily quoted some statistics especially regarding the higher rates of trauma in the rural
areas.
The organisation also works to improve road safety through education, encouraging
individuals and communities to take responsibility for their actions on the road.
We were reminded that road safety starts with everyday conversations – modelling safe
driving, speaking up when we see unsafe behaviour, and ensuring passengers feel safe
enough to voice their concerns.
Through its counselling, education, peer support and community initiatives, Amber
Community works towards a future with fewer road trauma incidents and safer roads for
everyone.
The presentation was a valuable reminder that keeping our community safe is a shared
responsibility, and that behind every road incident are people and families who may need
support.
