Our Club is pleased to be a part of the worldwide Rotary Exchange program.

What is Rotary Youth Exchange?
Rotary Youth Exchange is a globally respected program that offers Australian high school students the opportunity to live and study overseas for up to a year — immersing themselves in a new culture, language, and way of life.
Recognised by State and Territory Education Authorities, Rotary Youth Exchange is an accredited Secondary Student Exchange Program designed to promote international understanding and lifelong friendships through cultural exchange.

Who Can Participate?
The program is open to Australian high school students who are ready to step out of their comfort zone, embrace new experiences, and grow through travel and cultural immersion.
How Does the Program Work?

Rotary Youth Exchange is more than just an overseas trip — it’s a carefully managed journey with strong support at every stage. Here’s how it works:

1. Expression of Interest

It all begins with a simple step: completing the Online Expression of Interest (EOI) Form

Once submitted, your local Rotary Youth Exchange committee will contact you with a full application form and more information about the program.

2. Interview and Selection

You and your parents will be interviewed by your District Youth Exchange committee. This initial meeting helps determine your readiness and suitability for an exchange.
If selected, you’ll move on to a detailed application process, which includes:
  • Personal and family information
  • School achievements and extracurricular activities
  • A report from your school principal
  • Medical and dental assessments
  • Endorsement from a local Rotary club and district
  • Signed guarantee and release forms from you and your parents
Once your application is complete, your district committee will nominate you to an overseas Rotary district, where a host family and school placement is arranged.
What Happens Before You Go?
Rotary understands that studying and living abroad can be a big adjustment. That’s why thorough preparation is a key part of the program.
Student training includes:
  • Personal development
  • Public speaking
  • Communication skills
  • Cultural awareness
  • Financial management
These sessions are designed to equip you with the confidence and knowledge needed to thrive in your host country.

Parents are also included in the training process. Their involvement ensures they understand the challenges and growth opportunities ahead, and how best to support their child through the exchange year.

A Global Experience with Local Support
Rotary Youth Exchange connects students to an international network of Rotary clubs, providing a safety net of support, supervision, and care throughout the exchange. Host families, local schools, and Rotary mentors all play a role in making your year abroad successful and rewarding.
