Henry reminded us of the AGM and board meeting on 16 November.

Lachlan informed us we had a person interested in the club and the contact was via Facebook.

Lachlan also said he spoke with Barrie Hawkins who is doing well and hopes given time to come back to the club.

He also informed us Geelong community foundation fund had read some milestone of 50 million. (https://www.geelongfoundation.org/about-us/)

Alan Hart informed of the upcoming meetings we will have Lee Howard international cycling, we will have the Kokoda participants speak to us, and we have the Bert Fagg awards, and not forgetting he'll be away getting a knee replacement on 19 December.

Brad Potter then spoke of his experiences as a Rotary exchange student in Brazil in 1988. The motto on the Brazilian flag is order and progress, looking back the main difference between an exchange Students then and now is the ability to keep in contact, in his day it was all via snail mail but nowadays they're just face timing one another and keeping in contact. Like they're just down the road.

In 1988 the flight to Brazil was a flight from Melbourne to Auckland. He managed to buy a six pack of Steinlager for his host father and then from Auckland they flew to Buenos Aires Sao Paulo flying Latam Airlines.

Brazill had just ended military rule and at that time inflation was running at 16% per month.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Brazil)

Brad told us that his mother had kept all the letters that had written home from Brazil and rereading them, he's embarrassed because mostly they're about girls and how big Brazil was. He remembers going to a money exchange a black market one with arm guards at the front door and armed escort upstairs. How much money do you want? Given a chit? Walk back down and then given a handful of cash and then you just walk back out of the street again so Aussie.

Brad had a wonderful experience with all his host families, and saw some fantastic landscapes.

Alan thanked Brad for his presentation

The Raffle was drawn and the meeting closed.

(Editor note the dates in the graph last week were provided by Google AI and the dates were Sunday dates not Saturday. You have to be sure when searching make sure your local is Australia. Thanks John for pointing it out.

I getting rid of the graph idea and I'll use Club Runner to send invites for the Aldi BBQ on Sunday. If you all could please respond when you receive it that would be great. )
