ACU Bursaries 2014 report

 
On 17th February 2015 Dr. Margaret Carswell of ACU and Teaching Students; Jessica Arceri, Haylee Fithall, Laura Maconachie and Jessica Thewlis were welcomed to The Rotary Club of Ballarat West meeting.
 
The four students were each recipients of a Bursary granted by the Rotary Club of Ballarat West to assist with accommodation and other expenses incurred during  pre-service placements in rural schools.
 
Each student presented a written report on and spoke to the club about her individual experience and the contribution the bursary to this.
 
 
Jessica Arceri who is taking a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) was placed at West Colac Primary School from 17th November to 5th December 2014 and related that the bursary allowed her to enter more fully into the total experience with much less stress due to additional expenses.
 
Haylee Fithall, studying a Bachelor of Education (Primary), was at the Avoca Primary School from 18th November to 12th December 2014. She found that the ability to take the placement and live in the community allowed her to develop a close relationship with the whole school community and to appreciate the role of a rural teacher.
 
Laura Maconachie who is studying a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) was at St Michael’s and St John’s, Horsham from the 17th November to 5th December 2014. The support through   bursary assistance helped her to quickly develop and appreciate close links with the general and all parts of the school community.
 
Jessica Thewlis who is studying a Bachelor of Education (Primary) was at St Michael’s and St John’s, Horsham enthusiastically recommended the placement experience and was enthusiastic about the level of close relationships developed with students, staff parents and the whole local community.
 
Dr. Margaret Carswell thanked the Club for its involvement on behalf of Aquinas College ACU, and recipients. Further, she hoped the grants would continue into the future based on the success of the bursaries in supporting the students.
