This year, members of the Bracebridge-Muskoka Lakes Rotary Club are going to “Pay It Forward”. If you have read the book “Pay It Forward” or have seen the movie, you will recall that the main character, Trevor is given an assignment by his social studies teacher – “Come up with an idea that will change the world – and implement it.” After much thought Trevor comes up with the idea that he will do something significant to help 3 people, then instead of anyone paying him back, he will ask them to pay it forward to 3 more people, who pay it forward to three more people each and so on. We want to do this on a smaller scale within the Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes area. Each week, one club member will receive $25 to go out and do something nice for someone and ask them to pay it forward. There are so many possibilities – buying a meal for a homeless person, buying a couple of backpacks/school supplies for needy students, buying a “Gift of Hope” through an international aid program, and so many more possibilities.

Joanne Kidd was the first club member to take on the Pay It Forward challenge. She used her funds to buy several boxes of creamsicles which she delivered to the many volunteers at the Canada Day Fireworks evening in Bracebridge. Volunteers were hard at work in the heat, setting up the fireworks, collecting donations, etc. They all appreciated Joanne's kind gesture and we hope that they will "pay it forward" and do something nice for someone else.
