Duck Race 2010

It was another beautiful weekend in Muskoka for the 25th Annual Bala Cranberry Festival.

Bruce Reville did a fantastic job of organizing the crews and the weather.  Way to go Bruce!  I think from now on, we should call him "Bruce, The Duckman" Reville.

As usual our Rotary Club was out in force on Saturday selling duck tickets to anyone who would stop and listen.  The air was fill of cries such as "Ducks, ducks, ducks", "you can't win if you don't have a ticket" and "buy your duck tickets here"  As the day progressed, it changed to "Sorry, we are SOLD OUT!"  Great job to all the Duck Sellers.
The race was highly anticipated with people lining both bridges and both banks of the dam!  Some ducks found it difficult to continue down the course as they were distracted by the pools and eddys along the way.  Fortunately with help most ducks were rescued with thanks to the Duck Brigade in the bay & special thanks to "Spidey Erroll" who risked life & limb to rescue some poor ducks stuck in a swirling eddy at the start line!

This year's winner is duck # 532 bought by Yvonne Carbert.

Clean up and rescue were finished by 4:30pm and everyone made their way to the Corn's beautiful home in Torrence for a wonderful meal prepared by Marie Corn & Ron Ruthven.  Many people brought food to share and there was plenty of delicious food to go around.

 Thank you to everyone who sold tickets or supplied food or libations.  What a wonderful day of fellowship and fun!
