Nicole Binsted for donating $170 to Polio from the sale of glass Christmas ornaments.  Thanks Nicole for taking the time during this busy Christmas season and for your commitment to Polio.

CLUB BUSINESS

Elections- A motion was put forward to accept the following slate of officers for the 2011-2010 Rotary Year...

President: Bruce Kruger;  President- Elect: Leslie McCann;  Vice-President: Susan Keast;  Vice-President: Susan Keast;  Treasurer: Dianna Stevenson.

As there were no further nominations from the floor, all members voted in favour and the motion to accept the above slate of officers was passed.

Committee Reports

Club Administration  - Susan Keast reported that the new “Learning Academy” is now available for on-line registration; anyone who has Rotary pictures from this year or any previous year, please forward to Kim for archiving on our clubrunner site;  All are invited to the Rotary Club of Bracebridge’s Annual Carol Sing will be held on Dec. 22nd 7pm at the Rotary Gardens.

Treasurer’s Report – Not available at this time.

Membership – Terry introduced the “five for one” plan that she hopes to bring to the club in the new year.  This is a membership recruitment tool where groups of five members work together in a specific time frame with the intention of introducing and inducting one new member per team.  In our club, this could mean a potential of eight new members in the next six months.
Rotary Foundation – Cathryn reviewed details about our upcoming bonspiel on Jan.29th...we still need more teams to make this a success...so please, ask your friends to participate!  Also, stay tuned for more info in the New Year for Paul Harris Community Recognition Awards.

 

 Public Relations – Dave asked that all committee, board & club members let him know when presentations are being made so that the PR committee can arrange for photos to be taken.  He also mentioned that his committee will be working on getting three media stories published about our clubs projects and successes.

Service Projects -
Vocational Service:  Paulette updated the club on the (still to be named) planned program that will be aimed at encouraging high school aged boys to stay motivated to remain in school.  This will be a day long program aimed for October, 2011.
Sandra Winspear reviewed her planned project which will tie in a “Four Way Test” essay contest directed at grade ten students with one to two winner(s) being sent to RYLA in April at a cost of $320 per student.
Community Service:  Gary Lachance reported on the recent Financial Assistance Partners Group meeting
International Service:  Gayle reported that the matching grant process is moving forward with our partner club in El Salvadore and that the amount of $2500 will be the (approx.) amount that our club will need to donate in order to maximize our contribution of close to $13000 which will fund the purchase of computers for their school project.
Fundraising:  Tickets for our Spring Gala in April will be printed soon but a concerted effort is needed by all members to find sponsors for the tickets.  More to come soon from Don & Leslie.

 

 Request for Funds –

Special Olympics:  $500 will be donated to support the Muskoka Special Olympics Curling Bonspiel to be held in Gravenhurst in January.
Salvation Army:  A motion was put forward and approved by the club to donate $1500 to the Salvation Army to support the local Christmas food drive.  Motion approved by Bruce Kruger; seconded by Kim Rixon.
The Bracebridge Sportsplex:  A request  to support fundraising efforts for a Hydrorider Aquabike for the amount of $1800 has come to our club.  Further discussion will be needed before a decision is made.
