CLUB COMMITTEE STRUCTURE

 

Fremont Rotary has five standing committees, each with sub-committees that assist in maintaining specific club functions. New members are encouraged to visit a number of committees to determine which committee or committees they would like to be a part of.

CLUB ADMINISTRATION

1. Programs:This committee is responsible for the regular club meeting programs. Solid programs help maintain membership and provide awareness of important aspects of our community.

2. Fines:This committee makes sure that someone is assigned to lead the weekly fines.

3. Attendance/Set-up/Meals This committee is responsible for set-up of the meeting, including placing of lectern, the Rotary bell, the flags and club pennants. They also coordinate food service, working with assorted local caterers, negotiating contracts for food costs.

4. Invocation This committee is responsible for making sure someone is available to lead the invocation at each meeting.

5. Music This committee is responsible for making sure there is a song leader for each regular club meeting.

6. Club History This committee is the keeper of all things historically relevant to the Fremont Rotary Club.

MEMBERSHIP

1. Membership This committee is responsible for identifying potential new members, and for presenting new members for approval through the process identified at a later point in this packet. 

2. Social Events This committee is responsible for fostering positive connections between club members through special programs and group activities.

3. Retention Responsible for follow up with members that have either low attendance or other concerns that prevents them from being actively involved as Rotarians


SERVICE PROJECTS

1. Local Community Service This committee is responsible for identifying potential community service projects, and planning for the implementation of approved projects. The majority of the projects are funded by specific fundraising projects.  Some of the more recent local service projects include,

  • Shelter at Rec Center 
  • Rotary Park playground on Fremont Lake
  • Gazebo on Town and Country Bike Path
  • Benches and painting and Wessling Observatory
  • Clearing of Disc Golf Course in Branstrom Park
  • Clearing of “The Refuge” Bike Trail
  • Soccer shelters at varsity field
  • Repairs and Upgrades to dug-outs at Branstrom Park
The Local community service committee also coordinates on-going service projects, or community action days, such as the volunteer opportunities at the TrueNorth food pantry on the first Tuesday of each month.
 
2. World Community Service  The Fremont Rotary Club been active in providing support for communities around the world in need of support to improve the lives of their citizens. 
This committee has supported numerous programs abroad. On occasion, club funds are combined with District 6290, Thirsting to Serve, other clubs, and Rotary Foundation dollars to expand the project. Our largest project to date was an $88,000 project, completed in partnership with the White Cloud Rotary Club, to drill 15 wells in a remote area of Nigeria that has not been served by Rotary before. These wells were drilled in 15 villages and will support over 5,000 people. Prior to these wells being drilled, villagers had to walk 6 miles each way to obtain water from a river that became a trickle during the dry season. The provision of clean well water is expected to improve health, education, and incomes in this region.
 
In recent years the Fremont Rotary club has contributed to: 
  • Drilling a well for a hospital in Nigeria 
  • Helping to purchase a truck to support district water projects in Honduras 
  • Providing food for an orphanage in Haiti after the earthquake 
  • Providing a portable x-ray machine for an orphanage in Haiti 
  • Supporting a children's hospital in Haiti after the earthquake (2 grants) 
  • Providing water filters for villages in Sierra Leone 
  • Providing school supplies for children in Peru 
  • Providing water filters to families in Haiti 
  • Providing funds to help build additional housing for an orphanage in Haiti 
  • Providing funding to help build a health clinic in Peru 
  • In addition to committee funds, the board has provided funding to the Staten Island Rotary Club for help with Hurricane Sandy damage.
3. Fundraising: This important committee is responsible for raising money needed to fund the Rotary Club. The monies raised could support local or international projects. The Fremont Rotary Club is still searching for a “signature” annual event, although is had some success in raising about $5000 in 2012 through hosting a community basketball event involving the Harlem Ambassadors. Other fundraising has occurred through Rotary apparel auctions, chocolate sales, and raffles.

 

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION

Foundation Committee This committee is responsible for the promotion of the Rotary Foundation within the club and local community. This includes encouraging members to set their own annual giving goals, as well as promoting special projects such as the PolioPlus campaign.

Scholarship Committee This committee identifies outstanding high school scholars and awards scholarships for college expenses.

Disbursement Committee The Disbursement Committee considers smaller grant requests, focusing on those that will positively impact the most people and in particular on grants to benefit school age children. Our annual budget is currently $1,500 and grants are considered on a quarterly basis. Typically the entire budgeted amount is awarded over the course of each fiscal year. Some of the grants are recurring, while others are one-time awards. Over the past 5 years grants have been given for such things as:

 

PUBLIC RELATIONS

Public Relations Committee: This committee is responsible for  any/all public relations efforts within the club, including advertising, press releases, participation in parades or community expos. The club is looking for members who might have an interest in maintaining a club Facebook or Twitter account.

ClubRunner Committee: This committee is responsible for maintaining the Fremont web-site, including attendance reports, upcoming speaker list, and club news

International Youth Exchange: The Fremont Rotary Club occasionally hosts students from other countries and sends area students to other countries.  This helps plant the seeds for a lifetime of international understanding and sensitivity intended to promote peace.

Youth Leadership Committee  The Fremont Rotary club likes to sponsor two local students (usually seniors) to attend the Life Leadership training program for youth emphasizing: fundamentals and positive ethics of leadership, citizenship, personal growth, communication skills as a leader, problem solving and conflict management skills, self-confidence, self-improvement, healthy esteem, team building, advanced thinking, planning, organizing, and taking action through presentations, workshops, and activities. The Life Leadership conference is Rotary District 6290’s official Rotary youth Leadership Awareness Program held annually in Tustin.

Service Above Self: This committee is recognizes club or community members who have truly exhibited the Rotary Motto in their everyday life. Awarded at an annual meeting in June each year, recipients are highlighted during a club meeting and winners announced in the local paper.
