For Immediate Release
Evening Rotary Club Donates $20,000.00 to Charities

The Corpus Christi Evening Rotary Club will present checks on June 21, 2018, at 5:30 at
Joe’s Crab Shack downtown.
Corpus Christi, Texas, June 14, 2018. The Corpus Christi Evening Rotary Club has raised
$20,000.00 to benefit local charities and will have a check presentation on June 21, 2018, at 5:30
p.m. at Joe’s Crab Shack on the marina, 444 N. Shoreline Blvd. The public is welcome and
encouraged to attend.
At its 14th annual Mardi Gras Gala in February, the Evening Rotary Club raised $20,000.00.
CASA of the Coastal Bend and Communities in Schools of the Coastal Bend will each receive
$8,000.00, and the Rotary International Foundation will receive $4,000.00. Gloria Taylor,
Executive Director , will accept the check on behalf of Communities in Schools, and Paige Hall,
Executive Director, will accept on behalf of CASA. Rotarian Ellison Crider, who currently serves
as the Rotary District 5930 Foundation Chair, will accept on behalf of the Rotary International
Foundation.
The Mardi Gras event moved from the Ortiz Center to the Omni Hotel this year and is held in
conjunction with a silent auction conducted by CASA volunteers. The proceeds of that auction
are not included in the $8,000.00 raised by Evening Rotary.
Rotary International is an international service organization whose stated purpose is to bring
together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian services, encourage high
ethical standards in all vocations, and to advance goodwill and peace around the world. It is a nonpolitical
and non-sectarian organization open to all people regardless of race, color, creed, religion,
gender, or political preference. There are 34,282 member clubs worldwide, and 1.2 million
Rotarians. Its endowed Foundation is a worldwide leader in the effort to eradicate polio through
its partnership with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and it has been rated 4-stars by Charity
Navigator for over ten years.. The funds raised by the Corpus Christi Evening Rotary Club will
be earmarked for the Polio Plus fund.
Courts appoint CASAs to advocate for the best interest of abused or neglected children in court,
at school and in other settings. For many children in the state welfare system who are abused or
neglected, their committed CASA volunteer will be the one constant presence in their lives.
Communities in Schools facilitates delivery of community social services, health, educational
services and other support to reduce the dropout rate in 13 independent school districts and one
private school in Nueces, San Patricio, Jim Wells, Kleberg, Aransas and Brooks counties.
