The Object of Rotary


The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise, expressed through four core principles: acquaintance for service, high ethical standards, applying service ideals in daily life, and advancing international understanding and peace.

 

 

The Four Parts of the Object of Rotary

According to Rotary International’s guiding principles, 
the Object of Rotary consists of four key aims:

  1. FIRST :
    The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service.

    Rotary emphasizes building relationships as a foundation for meaningful service.
     

  2. SECOND :
    High ethical standards in business and professions; recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and dignifying each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society.

    This principle promotes integrity and respect for all professions.
     

  3. THIRD :
    The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life.

    Members are encouraged to integrate service into all aspects of their lives.
     

  4. FOURTH :
    The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

    Rotary fosters global cooperation and peacebuilding.
     

Context Within Rotary’s Mission
 

The Object of Rotary supports Rotary’s broader mission to provide service, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace. These principles guide all Rotary clubs worldwide and shape their service projects and community engagement. 

The Object of Rotary remains a foundational statement that defines the organization’s purpose and ethical framework.
