Linda Tamm and her team of hard working Rotarians built 38 Western Purple Martin nesting boxes and installed them throughout the inner Pender Harbour area.
Traditionally, the largest swallow in North America – the purple martin – nests in a colony in groups, returning to our area in early April migrating from Brazil.
From six nesting pairs in BC in the ‘80s, there are over 1,200 now. Natural nest sites had disappeared with waterside development, so human help is required.
