The August 13, 2008, issue of the Vancouver Courier ran an eye-opening feature, "Rotary's New Face," in which the staff writer Michael McCarthy documented the heroic PR efforts of the Downtown Rotary Club of Vancouver (established 1913). The club's initiative to "rebrand" Rotary--to increase its number and decrease its age--included sending out more than 400 press releases and raising money for a cable TV series to promote Rotary among young people.
