RLI comes to the Sunshine Coast. On August 23, 2008, twenty-six Rotarians gathered at Capilano College, Sechelt, for part one of the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) training course . . .

Five faculty members, acting as facilitators, led 21 participants through a day of interactive learning and lively discussion. Designed to enhance Rotary leadership and knowledge, the day's topics took in:
  • qualities of leadership
  • how leaders motivate and inspire
  • purpose of Rotary
  • structure of Rotary International
  • membership--how to attract and retain new Rotarians
  • basics of Rotary Foundation
  • Foundation matching grants for clubs
  • strategies for team- and committee-building
  • planning and executing successful service projects

The facilitators were: Kevin Conway, Simon Fulber, Dave Hamilton, Chris Offer, and Penny Offer. Varying in age, classification, and Rotary experience, course participants included new Rotarians, former exchange students, past and present club officers, and one district officer, ADG Wayne Roy. They came from clubs in Sechelt, Gibsons, Pender Harbour, Vancouver, Prince George, and Terrace. Patricia Anderson represented the Rotary Club of Pender Harbour.

Leadership is the ability to motivate toward a worthy goal . . .
Managers maintain what is; leaders create what isn't.
