A visiting Rotarian from Cheltenham, England, was a welcome and entertaining guest . . .

A short talk from Bob Stark, past president of his club in the UK, enlivened our September 5, 2008, meeting.

Bob explained how his club had weathered a difficult time during his presidency, when they changed their meeting time from lunch to early evening. This and other issues resulted in a loss of members. But networking and recruitment efforts paid back, increasing the club's membership to 45, as of September 2008.

Cheltenham, located between Bath and Stratford-on-Avon, boasts four Rotary clubs, of which Bob's, founded in 1921, is the oldest. To find out more about the Rotary club of Cheltenham, click here.

Bob, accompanied by his wife, Ros, had been visiting friends in Halfmoon Bay. As part of a friendly contest with a fellow club member from Cheltenham--to see who could travel the farthest west to a Rotary meeting--Bob and Ros planned to visit Vancouver Island and seek out the westernmost Rotary Club in the Victoria area.
