Helping Habitat

The Rotary Club of Parry Sound Revival brought hands, hope and hard hats to Habitat for Humanity Ontario Gateway North’s Parry Sound build at 19 Hillcrest Avenue.

Rotary members joined the Habitat team for a practical workday preparing the basement floor for concrete. Volunteers flattened gravel, laid and taped rigid insulation, installed the plastic vapour barrier, and placed wire mesh across the floor. Heather from Habitat kept the day organized and safe, ensuring the work followed proper job-site procedures.

The club also presented a $500 cheque in support of the build. Maria Ledesma presented the donation to Ab Fuller, chair of the Parry Sound Habitat committee. Ab has been a steady local champion for Habitat, helping drive fundraising, volunteer involvement, and community support for affordable housing in Parry Sound.

Habitat Ontario Gateway North identifies 19 Hillcrest Avenue as an active Parry Sound Chapter project and is accepting donations to support the local build. The chapter also lists Ab Fuller as the contact for donations and pickup arrangements, reflecting his central role in keeping the project connected to the wider community.

The work mattered because every Habitat home rises in layers: gravel, insulation, vapour barrier, mesh, concrete, framing, and eventually keys. Rotary helped prepare more than a basement floor. It helped prepare a future home for a local family.
