Let’s Make Some Waves
Our District Regional Retreat in Bracebridge brought together Rotarians from across the region under the banner “Let’s Make Some Waves,” and what a swell we made! It was a day of connection, ideas, and momentum — from breakout sessions that rippled into real discussion to moments of laughter and reflection by the lakeside. The sense of belonging and purpose was tangible, and many left energized for what lies ahead.
About Retired Chief Warren Tabobondung — the Person
Chief Tabobondung, long-time leader of Wasauksing First Nation, has served his community with distinction and has been re-elected multiple times since first taking office in 2013. His quiet, steady leadership has earned respect in Indigenous and broader Canadian circles alike — in fact, the First Nations Finance Authority recently honoured him for more than a decade of service.
“Most importantly, he emphasized the critical importance of communication among us all, and he beautifully reminded us of our shared identity as Canadians.” — Rick
About His Presentation at the Retreat
When Chief Tabobondung took the stage, his soft-spoken delivery immediately captivated the room. He shared incredibly wise words that brought a sense of calm to everyone present, weaving stories of land, leadership, belonging and shared future. He recounted the contributions of Indigenous peoples in Canada’s history, reminded us of our joint responsibility for reconciliation and community, and anchored his remarks in connection rather than division.
“An honour to attend a fine presentation by Chief Warren Tabobondung. A soft yet powerful discourse reminding us of the sacrifices of the Indigenous men in many wars in support of the people of Canada, but left wanting by the British Crown. We were part of a strong contingent from the Rotary Club of Parry Sound Revival at the Regional Retreat in Bracebridge.” — Jim Higgs
I am already looking forward to experiencing his presentation again at “The Gathering” in February 2026.
