President Hu Beaver called the meeting to order at 12:15pm. The meeting was held at the Kwataqnuk Resort. Steve Bauer led us in song. Rob Turner gave the invocation.
Announcements are as follows:
At the Board meeting beforehand, a motion was passed to fund the Club’s annual MATCH TO LOAVES AND FISHES.
For every dollar contributed by members, the Club will match up to $ 500, which will then be matched by Town Pump. Please make your donation by November 25.
October is Rotary membership month.

Bret Richardson made a slide presentation about Rotary International. One of the first slides said “We are not meeting for the quality lunch” which after what we were served Tuesday was pretty laughable. Bret led us through the different Rotary causes and how to donate to any of the projects or to any of them specifically all online for ease of access. It gives lots of options for ways of giving and the donate button is bright red so you can’t miss it. Check out the website rotary.org to see the wide variety of projects from Polio projects to the Annual Fund, World Fund, Disaster Response Fund etc. Options also include the Paul Harris Fellowship endowment. It is a goal of President Hu to increase the number of members working for a Paul Harris Society award. Polson used to be one of the higher Montana clubs per capita in Paul Harris fellows.
The program this week was birthday talks. Ron Bone talked about one of his experiences in the early 70’s in the military. As part of his job he provided supplies to a leper colony run by French Nuns off the South China Sea. The colony had about 500 people – most of whom were not lepers, but the families of lepers so there were children who needed school supplies. The kids were fascinated with the hair on Ron’s arms since they typically don’t have hairy arms.
Hu Beaver talked about why he has horses and how he has been a guide in the Bob Marshall Wilderness and needed horses and mules for guide trips. At times he pulled as many as 30 strings of horses and mules on his trips. He lives on 40 acres and still owns a few of the old horses that his grandson now plays with and rides.
The next Polson Rotary meeting will be Tuesday, October 22 at 12:15pm at the Kwataqnuk Resort.
