Bret arranged an on-line meeting through Ring Central as our meetings places were having issues with Coronavirus. 15 members attended for a least part of the meeting. Andy Fors, new principal also came on-line as a possible first step toward membership.
Aric Cooksley of the Boys and Girls Club also came on-line from the construction site at the new facility. He showed camera views of the gymnasium and explained the configuration. Construction is a little behind because of Coronavirus related delays, but still should be done by October. A final push for $ 200,000 that is needed to complete the funding of the $ 5-6 million project is in progress now.
Bret discussed 2 possible projects for the Club. One involves cherry pies made by the Montecahto Club of Finley Point as “rewards” for community members who have been most affected by the Coronavirus. The other involves rehabilitating the small “island” at the intersection of Bay Shore Drive and Bay Point Drive. Action was taken on the rehab project with a photo of the Bret’s work crew is attached. It took about 2 hours on Friday morning.

Polson Rotary is such a great group of leaders, it is so apparent when I send out an email and get a response from our membership. This week’s project was a huge success, and will be of one more of many more projects we can do together as a club for our community. A special thank you to Roxanne Duckworth, Larry Peltz, Hu Beaver, Jim Oates, Joe Blacker, Jeff Tuttle, and Larry Ashcraft for the landscaping/cleanup.
Our community has been adversely affected by the restrictions placed upon it by the State and Tribal governments. It is not our place as a club to change the regulations, but it is our place to ask where we can help, what can we do to make our community stronger, and what will benefit all concerned.
The teachers in the Polson’s schools were challenged beyond their imaginations in March, and have made adjustments and stepped up to the challenged that will continue to affect how they teach this coming year. Ray Woolridge had challenged the club to buy 25 pies from the Montecahto Club and in our conversation after our clean up on Friday, we thought it would be a good way to appreciate our teachers, but wanted to be able to benefit the businesses in our community effected by our summer. The thought/plan is to ask each member for a $25 donation, in lieu of the $200 normally asked for with our annual Festival Raffle drive, to go to buying gift certificates at local businesses and then donate the gift certificate can go to the teachers at the Polson Schools. I will work with club members to get the number of teachers, and a list of businesses that we can buy git cards from. In normal operation we would discuss at our regular meeting, but this will serve as communication in addition to our Zoom meeting on Tuesday for thoughts and discussion.
