President Hu Beaver called the meeting to order at 12:15pm. The meeting was held at The Mission Valley Elks. Rob Turner led us in song. Dave Overcast gave the invocation.
Announcements are as follows:
“Happy bucket”: Ray and Sheriane
Joe Blacker won the drawing and gave the money to the Whiskey Fund.
Rich Forbis relayed information on two upcoming community events. “Human Trafficking Missing Persons & Drugs’” on Wednesday, October 2 from 6-9pm at the Polson High School and “Understanding the Opioid Crisis,” Thursday, October 3rd at 6pm at the Kwataqnuk Resort. Polson Rotarians are encouraged to attend.
The program this week was introduced by Hu Beaver. Our guest speakers were Becky and Gary Dupuis of Polson Theatres. They spoke on the theatre expansion program underway on Main Street downtown. Gary said they considered building up in Ridgewater, but ultimately it made more economic sense to expand their current location from two auditoriums to six. He said the auditoriums will range from approximately 70 to 160 seats. The size of the auditoriums will also vary in size with some measuring 30x 50 feet. Becky said that by expanding to 6 auditoriums, they would be able to show more films, including more independent films; host more film festivals and other alternative entertainment events. She mentioned that a $160,000 Polson Redevelopment Agency grant will be used on the project and that taxes derived from the improvements will be put back into the Tax Increment Finance district to help other businesses located in the TIF district. Hu Beaver is the local contractor. Becky said she has set a May 2020 date for completion. Polson Theatres began in 1970 and between the mid-80’s and 2007 expanded the company’s theatres throughout Montana and Idaho.
