Rotary Ramblings August 13, 2019
President Hu Beaver called the meeting to order at 12:15pm.The meeting was held at the KwaTaqNuk Resort. Sharon Fulton led us in song, Eileen Kane gave the invocation and Rob Turnerserved justice. Eileen Kane won the drawing and donated it to the Martini Fund.

Announcements are as follows: Festival of Youth report: Winners were 1st place Red Hot Chili Mamma’s 2nd place was Mission Valley Aquatics, 3rd place was St. Joe’s. Winners of the drawings were: Earl Hanneman the groceries, Karen Swan the cash, Leslie Dalpiaz the gas, Ray Aylesworth the golf, and Pat DeVries the fitness pass.
Don’t forget the second Tuesday Social Hour at Fiesta EnJalisco at 5:30. Invite any non-Rotarian as well as members.
Hands across the border is coming up in September, please consider signing up.
We tentatively have the Shadow reserved for September 10 at 5:00 pm, watch for more information.
August is membership month and it is everyone's responsibility to recruit new members. August birthdays are Ken Cook, Dan Barz, Dave Overcast, Steve Bauer, Roxanne Duckworth, and Jake Baumann. Wish them all a happy birthday when you see them.
Kimberley Austin is a senior at Hermiston, OR and stopped by to visit our club for lunch. She just got back from a year in France as a Rotary Exchange student. She talked about her stay with three different families over her 11 months and how enjoyable it was to meet them and live with them. She met other Rotary Exchange students from 24 different countries on a special bus trip through 11 European countries and learned a lot. She made six trips to Paris and decided she should have spent more time in other cities while she had the chance.
Birthday talks: Dave Overcast talked about his wife Nona’s cancer treatment at the University of Colorado hospital. Dave is really impressed with the care she has gotten and her new treatments. He stressed that everyone should get their tests. Gayle talked about his recent trip to Alaska and the village where he stayed which has 300-400 residents. They were a salmon fishing community and now salmon is hard to find. Cruise ships dock there now – initially 60 ships in 2017 and this year it’s over 130. Lots of discussion ensued over the salmon and similar trips that other Rotarians have made to that village.
