Fellowship at Lunch

As more people start getting their vaccines, they are coming out for Rotary meetings and our fellowship lunches at the Missoula Country club the last Wednesday of each month. This is such a great way to visit and chat with friends each month. Above are pictured Rotarians who attended the March 31 fellowship lunch.

Your vote will count whether you're attending in person or online. According to our bylaws, it requires a quorum of the membership to conduct business, so please make an effort to attend this week's meeting.

        • Governance: Who will lead us into the future?

        • Our Challenge FY 21: How have we done?

        • Club Operations: Are you happy?

        • Service to the World: How can we help?

        • Youth: Are we guiding young people well?

        • Fiscal Health: How do our books stack up?

        • Charitable Giving: Why do we give?

Thank you for your Service Above Self!
Former Rotaract Members
Former Missoula Rotaract Member honored with Fulbright Fellow
Hannah Harari McDaniel, former member of the Missoula Rotaract Club, was honored as a Fulbright M.A. Fellow earlier this year to study peace and conflict resolution in Israel. She is studying during the 2020-2021 year at the University of Haifa where she will earn a Masters of Arts degree in Peace and Conflict Resolution.

Hannah is a graduate of the University of Montana with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and a minor in International Development Studies. She says her professional and academic careers have focused on communication as a mechanism for social change through nonprofit organizations and grassroots collaboration. During her fellowship, Hannah is further exploring the role of communication in social justice.

"I look forward to building relationships within the Israeli NGO sector," she says.

Congratulations to Hannah for earning the prestigious Fulbright Fellowship and for continuing to make the world a peaceful and better place. Rotary Club of Missoula salutes you. We are so proud of you!

We need you! Annual Meeting this week requires your presence
According to our club’s bylaws, once a year we hold an Annual Meeting. While the meeting usually falls on the second Wednesday of April, this year the board approved moving the date ahead one week to accommodate an outstanding speaker. Thus, we will hold the Annual Meeting on April 7.

Our bylaws also state that we must have a quorum of the membership in order to conduct business such as voting for new leadership on the board, making any bylaws or other changes to the club’s governance, or voting on any special projects such as the Global Coalition. In Article V, Section 3 of the bylaws, a quorum is defined as “one-third of the membership.” Our official membership totals 63 at present, which means we require at least 21 members in attendance at the Annual Meeting in order to conduct business. Your presence is important, and I thank everyone for being there in person, or signing in via Zoom.

I know an Annual Meeting might sound kind of boring and one that you’d just as soon skip. We’ll make it as fun as we can!

As Rotarians, we all accept an oath to support the club and strengthen it by serving in a leadership role, recruiting new members, bringing forth your ideas, helping with service projects, joining fellow members for social time, making sure weekly meetings are run smoothly and speakers are interesting, engaging youth in Rotary’s high ideals, assuring our club supports Rotary’s charitable programs and community/international organizations, and making new friends that last forever.

That’s what Rotary is all about. None of that happens on its own. It takes all of us working together to accomplish our club’s goals.

Thank you for being an active Rotarian and making our community better as a result. See you at the Annual Meeting on Wednesday.

HELP YOUR FAVORITE NONPROFIT
Submit your application for grant funding by April
Do you know a worthwhile nonprofit that might need support? Your Missoula Rotary club is seeking worthwhile nonprofit organizations who need funding for their projects. Each year, our club supports a variety of projects with the funds we raise. All projects must fall within one of the seven areas of focus as identified by Rotary International, including peace and conflict prevention/resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, economic and community development, and supporting the environment. The application is available on our website. President Victoria Emmons has also emailed it to every member. Grant applications must be submitted by a member of our club on behalf of a 501(c)3 organization. Please contact President Victoria if you have any questions.

DID YOU KNOW?
Q. How many presidents has the Rotary Club of Missoula elected since our club's founding in 1917?

A. Answer to last week's question ... What is the new theme of Rotary International for FY 2021-2022?  Rotary International President-Elect Shekhar Mehta, Rotary Club of Calcutta-Manahagar, West Bengal, India, announced his presidential theme for 2021-22 at the PETS training that our club's President-Elect Dean Fiedler and President-Elect Nominee Wayne Hiett attended last month. His theme is SERVE TO CHANGE LIVES.
