Meeting starting at 8:40... For everyone that hasn't had a chance there are Mckinney applications up on Facebook, if your still interested in tutoring at Lowell school make sure to fill them out! Tonight we finally decided on our international project that we are going to start working on, we chose the CAI which is the Central Asain Institute an organization that was started by Greg Mortenson. This Organization builds schools for girls in places such as Afghanistan and Pakistan. We feel that it will be rewarding to help an organization that doesn't have a ton of support such as organizations like doctors with borders. Some of the ideas we have for international projects in the future , were kids of Kilimanjaro, pure water for villages that aren't able to obtain it which would basically entail fundraising money to buy pure water tablets. Last week a few of us met with KGBA and BCEC, they are going to be helping us get everything started with our benefit concert. They will be helping us advertise and choosing a Venue. We are hoping to get three to four different acts for the night, and have a good cross section for all ages. Some of the bands that we have been considering are Wartime Blues and possibly Mission Mountain Wood Band. We are hoping to do the benefit concert downtown at a local bar. We have been considering The Badlander, the Top Hat, or The Florence! The concert will be ages 18 and up, and at the door we will have something for people to donate money into. We are going to need a lot of different services, posters, flyers etc and are hoping to get a lot donated from local places. We are really going to need a lot of help from everyone organizing this event because there is so much to do. We are looking into the third weekend in April for the concert but haven't picked an exact date. While this seems like a while away it will come fast and it would be appreciated if everyone could help out! Our advisor Cate told us about Thursday night pint night at the Kettle house where they donate a portion of their sales to a certain non-profit organization. This could be a great opportunity for us to go pitch our idea for donating to the CAI. Little fundraisers like this could really help us reach our goal. February 13th we will be going out to Watsons to make valentines crafts with the kids from 1-3 in the afternoon. We will need to bring a variety of different supplies to work with so if anyone has anything that they think we could use please bring it to the next meeting on Wednesday! It should be a lot of fun!! We are only going to need about 8 people to go out there so if you are interested get a hold of one of us or attend the next meeting as we will be discussing more details then. Hope to see you all next Wednesday at 8:30! Meeting adjourned 9:55
