The dental treatment can finally be done in a proper chair
An anonymous dentist from Texas has donated several dentist chairs to institutions on the Bay Islands. One of them ended up at the CESAMO Savannah Bight clinic on the island of Guanaja, where dental treatment has been done from an uncomfortable plastic chair. Our club organized the transport to the islands. The other one ended up on the island of Utila. In addition, both places received an autoclave.
Doctora Lorrie Thomas, who is the general doctor at the clinic at Guanaja:
“The chair has been of such great use to us at the health center. It has already been used in 2 brigades this year, 2024. One was with the Partners for Global Health in March, and another was this past week. It’s been very beneficial to our people to clean their teeth and extractions.”
Currently, there’s no permanent dentist on their staff.
The club's President Angela is clear on the importance of this kind of operation:
“Our Rotary Club’s primary mission is to work for the betterment of the people who live on The Bay Islands. It is, therefore, of utmost importance to us that we are able to undertake projects that benefit Utila and Guanaja in addition to Roatan. Donating these two chairs to Utila and Guanaja, which will significantly enhance the healthcare services provided, is a testament to our commitment. This is a crucial part of our belief in making a positive difference in the communities we serve”
