Three prospective members were in attendance at our last meeting due to the work of MC Bob Frew and his newspaper ads. Say hello to them at this week's meeting and make them welcome. Remember, August is Membership and Membership Retention month. It is the job of all members to recruit new members!
Also last Thursday, PP Barrie Seaton led a "Lessons Learned" session for the 2007 Rotary MayDay Parade to make sure that the 2008 parade will be the biggest and best yet.
Big-Big thanks to out going Sergeant-At-Arms Joan Seaton for her dedication this past year for setting up facilities, collecting happy-sad dollars, fining people and of course had the need arose to ejecting unruly people from our meetings. On Thursday, she presented newly appointed SAA Gayle Acker with her badge of office. Uh-Oh, watch out, there is a new sheriff in town!
Saturday and Sunday our Club in partnership with the TreeHouse Pub sponsored a Beer Garden at Gates Park for a Slo-Pitch Tournament. Despite the torrential downpour many members came out to lend a hand. Kudos to DCS Greg Archibald for captaining the event and mucho thanks to prospective member Michael Asma for securing the liquor licences on such short notice.
TRF DDF DSG 3H -- No one could blame you if you thought these were acronyms for text messaging but they're not. These are just some of the ways that local Rotary Clubs can access Rotary International funding for their projects both internationally and locally.
PP Barrie Seaton (also CP, CM & FC--), along with new member Darrel McLeod and myself braved the Canada/US border and attended the District's annual RI Foundation Seminar in Bellingham on Saturday. Afterwards we all agreed that it was well worth the lengthy border line-ups. Plan on attending next year! More about how we can further our goals with the help of RI in the months to come.
