The For Kids’ Sake program provided by Tri-City Transitions Society is an after-school activity offered in partnership with SD#43 for children 6 to 12 at Birchland Elementary in Port Coquitlam from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm using a 30 day or 20 day option for enrollment.

Interactive activities offered vary from art and music facilitation, teamwork development to physical activities that build upon connectedness, physical health and well-being, social and emotional development, enhanced school experiences and well-defined after-school time.

The program’s objective is to increase the emotional wellbeing of children by helping them understand and cope with their feelings in a safe and supportive group environment and by providing them with a safe place to be after school hours, which is a key to the success of the students.
Children who attend Birchland Elementary come from homes afflicted by many social issues. Over 30% of the population lives at or below the poverty line; as well various students have been subjected to physical, emotional and sexual abuse. Additionally, families in the community are also affected by addiction to drugs and alcohol along with other forms of mental illness.
