Janet Power Classification Talk
Janet's talk was called "Waves of Opportunity". Rotarian Janet Power is the Acting Manager of Residential Care, Cottages, at Hawthorne Care Centre in Port Coquitlam. Janet was born and raised in Newfoundland. She considers her life to be divided into three main areas of "Family", "Sports", and "Education/Work".
Janet gave us a major rundown of the joys of life in Newfoundland. Newfoundland has it's own form of language and she showed us a Newfoundland dictionary, which was very interesting. Do you know what a "bayman" is or a "townie"?She comes from a family of 7 sibblings. Her town had three main income producers - Fishing - a USA Naval Base - A Phosphorous Plant. Janet's early love was playing baseball (fastball). She was scoutedto BC, first to play ball and later went on to Alt. and then back to BC. She played onprovincial teams representing the provinces inthe national competitions. She was into community recreation management at University. When she left Newfoundland, she went to Edmonton where she ended up on the National FastBall Team. SFU courses put her in her present line of work. She has been involved in recreational management for some time where she oversee's groups of nurses.
Janet's passion is to represent Seniors. to help those that cannot help themselves. She is very happy in her work and looks forward to many more challenging years in her field.
