Inner Visions Recovery Society operates a resource facility in Maple Ridge to help women recover from the disease of addiction.

We were visited by Joanna Scofield, a volunteer from that group, recently. Hannah House provides 75 treatment beds and 100+ after care beds. The facility was started 9 years ago.

The facility focused originally on intervention because of lack of resources for women. The current treatment program is a 60 day program utilizing the AA 12 steps structure.

200 women a year go through the facility (450 men also go through the program) with a 75% completion rate and a success rate of about 60% who stay sober after one year. In addition anger management programs are available and assistance to find employment and after care housing.

Joanna shared her addiction story with us, telling us she had her first drink at 12 years old. Her teen years were full of struggle with addiction. She became pregnant at 20 and was not able to care for her daughter. Today she is able to help others and now has a relationship with her daughter.

The facility that she wants to help is planning on an additional 16 beds. Usually there is a wait list for Hannah House of 25 to 30 women. $1.1 million is needed for that purpose and already $950K has been raised.
