Oct 2nd Meeting Minutes
Our Oct. 2nd meeting was a lively one! We were visited by Steve Whitick from the Port Moody Club and Angela Andersen, who gave us the low down on using a student trainee for vocational work. It was well done - contact Angela if you want to do something similar. Steve talked about his involvement with "Run For The Cure" group and how Port Moody Rotary has done a student reading program with local school for the last 7 years.
Greg Archibald let us know there will be another club luncheon at Pasta Polo on Oct. 15th. Let Ryan McAdams know if you can attend. The last one was fun. Gale Acker talked about our "Safe Ride Home" project with the city of Port Coquitlam on Dec 6th, a Saturday night. We will need about 8 club members to be involved. register on-line please. The District Dinner happens Nov. 7th in Everett (or Mount Vernon). The Tri-City clubs are working on the Tri-Cities Rotary Dance - fundraiser for Lteracy (to pay for the dictionaries) to happen Nov 8th in Coquitlam at the Poirier St. complex. Details are still being worked out but please mark your calendars. We need a good turnout for this event. Invite your friends as well as Rotarians. Cost will be $40 - $45 per person. Greg Archibald talked about the container of supplies for a poor country that he/we have been working on for some time. They have found a container and hope to ship the goods soon. Our cost is $2,500 for the cost of the container. Greg has been working on this project for months and is pleased to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Cheryl talked about "Acts of Kindness" and how we can all be involved. She would like to hear stories from members about their "Acts of Kindness" at the meetings. It's not likely to happen though - unless the act was a very unusual event.
CLUB POSITIONS AVAILABLE: We need; An editor or backup editor for this publication.
1. A Hike For Hospice Co-Ordinator - Gale Acker is doing work for the District and needs to pass this position on to another Rotarian. It's a one day event held in the Spring each year. You will be working closely with Crossroads hospice Society to make it work. 2. Community Services #2 - All positions need a back-up position. This one in particular. Dan Olson is the chair but is heavilly involved in BIA and now politics. We won't see much of him for some time and there are many projects that need to be dealt with. If you have a passion to do good at the Civic level, why not have a closer look at this position? It will be very fulfilling for someone.
3. An editor or assistant Editor for this publication. I've been doing a rather poor job since taking on additional duties. It's fun, gets you into everything and leaves you with a feeling of accomplishment. You can do the work when it suits you. What more could you ask for. Talk to me if interested.
